Purpose of the Role
Manage assigned public equities and fixed income portfolios and support the delivery of the Asset Management department’s investment objectives. The SVP will conduct investment research, recommend and execute portfolio decisions within delegated authority, monitor performance and risk. The role works within the investment strategy, mandates, and limits approved by the Head of Department and relevant investment committees.
Key Responsibilities
Portfolio Management
- Manage assigned public equities and fixed income portfolios in accordance with client mandates, approved strategies, and investment guidelines.
- Monitor holdings and market developments, and recommend purchases, sales, and portfolio rebalancing.
- Assess portfolio exposure, liquidity, income, duration, credit quality, and concentration.
- Track performance against portfolio objectives and benchmarks, investigate material variances, and recommend adjustments.
- Maintain accurate investment records and provide timely input for portfolio valuations and client reporting.
Investment Research
- Analyze listed companies, sectors, issuers, bonds, and broader market conditions to identify investment opportunities and risks.
- Prepare investment recommendations with clear analysis of expected returns, valuation, downside risk, and portfolio fit.
- Monitor economic developments, interest rates, credit spreads, earnings, and other factors affecting assigned portfolios.
- Present research and portfolio recommendations to the Head of Asset Management and investment committees as required.
Risk and Controls
- Monitor assigned portfolios against mandate restrictions, investment limits, and internal policies.
- Coordinate with Risk and Compliance on investment matters, exceptions, and regulatory requirements.
- Escalate breaches, material losses, deteriorating credit quality, and other significant concerns promptly.
- Work with dealing, Operations, and custodians to resolve trade, settlement, corporate action, and reconciliation issues.
Client and Internal Support
- Prepare portfolio reviews, performance commentary, and market updates for clients and internal stakeholders.
- Participate in client meetings alongside the Head of Asset Management and relationship teams.
- Provide investment input for proposals and presentations relating to public equities and fixed income.
- Respond to investment related queries accurately and within agreed timelines.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related discipline.
- CFA charterholder or progress toward the designation preferred.
- Approximately 8–12 years of relevant experience in asset management, with substantial exposure to public equities and fixed income.
- Experience managing portfolios or contributing directly to investment decisions under defined mandates.
- Experience supervising analysts or junior investment professionals is preferred.
- Knowledge of GCC and international markets is an advantage.
- Strong equity and fixed income research skills, including company valuation and credit analysis.
- Sound understanding of portfolio construction, performance measurement, and investment risk.
- Ability to turn research into clear, practical investment recommendations.
- Careful attention to investment limits, documentation, and operational controls.
- Clear communication with investment committees, colleagues, and clients.
- Good judgment and the ability to manage several portfolios and deadlines.
