Position Overview
The Mechanical Technical Office Team Leader is responsible for leading and supervising the technical office team, ensuring the efficient and timely delivery of high-quality engineering designs, technical documentation, and solutions. The role involves planning and monitoring team activities, providing technical guidance, reviewing engineering deliverables, coordinating with other disciplines, and ensuring compliance with project specifications, industry codes, and company standards. The position also focuses on team development, performance management, and effective coordination to support successful project execution.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management & Execution
- Develop and manage detailed work plans and schedules for the technical office team, ensuring activities are completed within project timelines.
- Assign tasks to team members based on their skills, experience, workload, and project priorities.
- Monitor the progress of assigned projects and activities, identify potential delays or issues, and provide regular status updates to the MEP Section Head.
- Identify technical and operational risks and escalate them to the MEP Section Head, proposing appropriate mitigation measures.
- Ensure the timely preparation and submission of required technical deliverables and project documentation.
Design & Technical Support
- Review and verify engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, and other technical deliverables prepared by team members to ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable standards.
- Collect and consolidate design data, drawings, models, and technical information to ensure complete and accurate project packages.
- Provide day-to-day technical guidance and support to team members in resolving complex design and engineering challenges.
- Review technical solutions and provide recommendations to ensure alignment with project requirements.
- Ensure all technical office outputs comply with project specifications, applicable industry codes, engineering standards, and company procedures.
- Support the team in addressing technical comments and resolving design-related issues during project execution.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, supervise, and provide technical direction to the mechanical technical office team.
- Provide continuous coaching, mentoring, and technical support to team members to enhance their engineering capabilities.
- Provide regular performance feedback and identify development areas for team members.
- Encourage knowledge sharing and promote the exchange of engineering knowledge, best practices, and new technologies.
- Organize technical discussions and knowledge-sharing sessions where required.
- Address and resolve minor interpersonal and technical conflicts within the team to maintain a productive working environment.
Communication & Coordination
- Prepare and submit regular progress reports to the MEP Section Head, including project status, deliverables, risks, and technical issues.
- Act as the primary point of contact for the technical office team in day-to-day coordination with other disciplines and departments.
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to resolve technical interfaces, conflicts, and dependencies.
- Represent the team in internal project meetings and provide updates on progress, technical matters, and required actions.
- Coordinate with project stakeholders to ensure the timely availability of required technical information and deliverables.
Performance Monitoring & Process Improvement
- Monitor team performance and ensure that technical deliverables meet the required quality standards and project deadlines.
- Identify opportunities to improve technical office processes, workflows, and engineering practices.
- Support the implementation of standardized processes and best practices within the technical office.
- Ensure proper organization and maintenance of technical documents, drawings, calculations, and project records.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
Experience
- Minimum 8 years of experience in a similar technical office or engineering department.
- Previous experience in the construction industry is preferred.
- Proven experience in leading or supervising technical office teams and coordinating engineering deliverables.
Skills & Competencies
Technical Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Autodesk software.
- Strong knowledge of engineering design, technical documentation, calculations, and specifications.
- Good understanding of applicable engineering standards, project specifications, and construction requirements.
- Ability to review and assess technical deliverables and engineering solutions.
Language Skills
- Intermediate proficiency in English, both written and verbal.
Certifications (Preferred)
- PMP, MBA, LEED GA, or CFPS certifications are considered an asset.
