Materials Manager
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Materials Manager to lead material planning, production scheduling, shipping, receiving, inventory control, and overall material flow within a fast-paced automotive manufacturing operation.
This position is responsible for ensuring materials are available to support production requirements while maintaining accurate inventory, efficient material movement, and strong customer delivery performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all material planning, production scheduling, shipping, receiving, inventory control, and material flow activities.
- Develop and maintain production schedules based on customer requirements, inventory levels, and manufacturing capacity.
- Ensure raw materials, components, and finished goods are available and positioned to support uninterrupted production.
- Manage inventory levels and accuracy while identifying opportunities to reduce excess inventory and improve inventory turns.
- Oversee warehouse, shipping, and receiving operations to ensure accurate and timely movement of materials.
- Coordinate inbound and outbound material requirements to support production and customer delivery expectations.
- Monitor customer releases, forecasts, and schedule changes and communicate requirements throughout the organization.
- Drive improvements in material flow, warehouse organization, inventory accuracy, and scheduling effectiveness.
- Lead cycle counting and physical inventory processes.
- Identify and resolve material shortages, scheduling conflicts, and potential customer delivery issues.
- Partner closely with Operations, Customer Service, Quality, Purchasing, and Supply Chain teams.
- Develop and lead the materials team while establishing clear expectations, accountability, and performance metrics.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to inventory, logistics, material handling, and plant efficiency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent manufacturing experience will be considered.
- 5+ years of progressive materials, production control, planning, or supply chain experience within manufacturing.
- Automotive manufacturing/supplier experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with production planning, scheduling, inventory control, shipping, receiving, and material flow.
- Strong understanding of MRP/ERP systems and automotive customer requirements.
- Experience managing and developing materials, logistics, warehouse, or production control teams.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with changing customer and production requirements.
