HÜBNER Photonics is expanding its R&D organization and is looking for a motivated Laser Engineer to join the R&D team at Cobolt AB in Stockholm, Sweden. As part of HÜBNER Photonics, Cobolt develops, manufactures, and supplies high-performance lasers and laser systems for demanding applications, including life sciences, AR/VR, quantum technologies, and semiconductor manufacturing. Our products are used by system suppliers and leading research institutes worldwide and are recognized for their exceptional quality and reliability.
About the role
As a Laser Engineer, you will be at the forefront of developing advanced laser systems based on fiber amplifier technology. You will work closely with colleagues across optics, electronics, software, and mechanical engineering to design, develop, and continuously improve high-performance laser systems. From initial concepts and optical design to prototyping, testing, characterization, and product implementation, you will play an integral role throughout the development process. The role offers a hands-on opportunity to work with advanced fiber amplifiers and laser technology in a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Designing and developing new laser products based on fiber optics.
• Developing customer-specific solutions and adaptations
• Further developing and improving existing products
• Building and evaluating prototypes in a laboratory environment
• Performing testing, characterization, and verification
• Supporting production and sales with your technical expertise
Qualifications
We believe you are a structured and analytical engineer who enjoys hands-on technical work and solving complex problems in a multidisciplinary environment. You communicate effectively, take initiative, and are comfortable taking responsibility throughout the product development process. We also expect you to have:
• A PhD or MSc in Physics, Optics, Photonics, or a related field, with a strong theoretical foundation.
• Extensive experience working with optical fibers, fiber amplifiers, or other advanced fiber-based
optical components and systems.
• Strong knowledge of fiber optics, laser technology, physical optics.
• Experience with laboratory work, including building, testing, characterizing, and evaluating fiber
optic and laser-based systems and prototypes.
• Excellent written and spoken English and Swedish skills.
