Location: Doha, Qatar (on-site, relocation required)
Employment type: Full-time, permanent | Seniority: Executive
Confidential Opportunity | Doha, Qatar
Dawn & Dusk Advisors is supporting a well-established, regulated, Sharia-compliant investment institution in Doha, Qatar, in hiring an accomplished Investment Director / Chief Investment Officer to rebuild and lead its investment department.
The institution is entering a new chapter and needs a builder. You'll design its investment platform, launch a new generation of investment products and funds, and set the standard for how the function operates. A defined book of legacy positions will continue to be managed toward orderly realisation, but the role's main focus is the build ahead.
You'll report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and work regularly with the Investment Committee and the Board. You'll own investment strategy and performance end to end, from origination and structuring through execution, portfolio management and exit.
SKILLS REQUIRED
- Rebuild and strengthen the investment department: its operating model, team structure, mandates and ways of working.
- Design and launch new investment products and funds, from concept through structuring, documentation, regulatory approval and go-to-market.
- Define and lead the firm's investment strategy and asset allocation, in line with its risk appetite and Sharia-compliant mandate.
- Enhance the investment governance framework: policies, SOPs, the Investment Committee process and risk controls.
- Recruit, mentor and lead a high-performing investment team.
- Lead the full deal lifecycle across private equity, real estate, structured products and strategic investments: origination, screening, valuation, due diligence, structuring, negotiation, execution and exit.
- Direct post-investment and portfolio management, including performance monitoring, value creation, and risk, liquidity and return management.
- Oversee the orderly management and realisation of the legacy portfolio.
- Lead the preparation of MOUs, LOIs, term sheets and pre-contractual documentation, and negotiate within approved mandates.
- Present investment proposals, business cases and portfolio reviews to the Investment Committee, senior management and the Board.
- Ensure full compliance with the investment policy, regulatory requirements and applicable laws.
- Manage relationships with external fund managers, co-investors, advisors, auditors and counterparties.
Mandatory Requirements (applications that don't meet all of these will not be considered)
- 13–15 years of progressive experience in investment management, private equity, asset management or corporate finance
- A proven record of leading investments through closing and exit
- Hands-on experience structuring and launching investment products or funds
- Senior experience within a regulated financial institution, with direct exposure to regulators
- Experience presenting to Investment Committees and/or Boards
- Willingness to relocate to Doha, Qatar
Qualifications (Must Have)
- CFA charter, MBA or equivalent professional qualification
- Experience with Sharia-compliant structures and cross-border fund vehicles
- M&A or corporate-finance advisory experience at a regional investment bank or a Big Four firm
- GCC regional experience
- Exposure to alternative or specialised asset classes
The Person
- A builder's mindset: energised by a blank sheet and comfortable with ambiguity
- Integrity and sound judgement, with a high ethical standard
- Presence and conviction: able to hold a position and challenge constructively
- Confident and credible with regulators and supervisory bodies
- A clear, persuasive communicator in the boardroom
