Environmental OfficerSukari is located approximately 750km from Cairo and 25km from Marsa Alam on the Red Sea. First gold was poured in June 2009 and commercial production began in April 2010, making Sukari the first modern gold mine in Egypt, a country which in ancient times was a prolific producer of the precious metal. Sukari conducts both open-pit and underground mining operations, each employing specialised mining methods tailored to the orebody characteristics and operational requirements.
The Role
The Environmental Officer will form part of the Health, Safety, Environment and Sustainability Department at AngloGold Ashanti’s Sukari operation. The role is responsible for coordinating and contributing to the development, implementation and maintenance of environmental aspects of the HSES policy and Environmental Management Plan to support HSES excellence across the Sukari Gold project.
The position supports site compliance through inspections, environmental monitoring, waste management, emergency preparedness, reporting, training and corrective action follow-up. The role also works closely with employees, contractors, visitors, consultants and service providers to promote environmental awareness and maintain site standards.

* Scientific degree in Science, Chemical Engineering or similar.
* Specialised environmental courses.
* 2 to 5 years of professional experience in a similar position.
* Experience in the environmental field with emphasis on systems development and implementation.
* Knowledge of Egyptian laws related to environmental activities.
* Knowledge of national environmental management processes.
* Ability to use different environmental monitoring devices.
* Ability to deliver environmental training courses.
* Demonstrated problem-solving skills and report writing ability.
* Microsoft Office proficiency.
* Sound planning and organisational skills.
