Job Title: Environmental Health & Safety Manager
Location: Smithfield, NC
Position Summary
The EHS Manager will provide site-wide leadership for environmental, health, and safety programs, ensuring regulatory compliance, effective risk management, and continuous improvement. This role will establish EHS objectives, monitor performance, maintain certifications, lead employee engagement, and ensure timely resolution of regulatory and company findings.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the site in achieving EHS goals, targets, and compliance objectives.
- Develop and implement EHS strategies aligned with corporate and business-group initiatives.
- Conduct risk assessments to identify critical EHS hazards and establish appropriate improvement targets.
- Establish and monitor leading and lagging EHS performance indicators.
- Build a strong EHS culture through employee engagement, committees, and cross-functional teams.
- Maintain applicable ISO/OHSAS certifications and support third-party EHS recognition programs.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Coordinate annual compliance evaluations and ensure timely closure of regulatory and internal findings.
- Manage EHS data, including injuries, illnesses, environmental metrics, risk assessments, and corrective actions.
- Develop training matrices and ensure required EHS training is completed and documented.
- Partner with site leadership and facilities teams to maintain effective EHS operational controls and preventive-maintenance programs.
- Coordinate response actions during emergencies and crises.
- Manage interactions with government agencies and the public regarding EHS matters and enforcement actions.
- Promote a proactive zero-incident safety culture across the site.
Required Qualifications
- 4-year degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Experience or education focused on EHS program management and employee training.
- Experience using company-wide systems for EHS data and performance reporting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree or professional certification such as CSP, CIH, or CHMM.
- Experience leading cross-functional EHS teams in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Proficiency in English and Spanish.
- Strong experience with EHS metrics, training programs, audits, and corrective-action management.
