Role Purpose
The Key Account Manager is responsible for the end-to-end management and development of assigned strategic accounts, with a primary focus on government and public-sector customers.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Account Management
- Own and manage a portfolio of strategic key accounts, primarily within the government and public sector.
- Develop comprehensive account strategies and annual account plans aligned with business objectives, priorities, and market opportunities.
- Establish and maintain strong, trusted relationships with senior government officials, decision-makers, influencers, procurement stakeholders, and relevant partners.
- Identify short-, medium-, and long-term growth opportunities within assigned accounts and develop clear plans to capture them.
- Position the company as a strategic partner by understanding customer challenges and translating them into relevant business solutions.
- Continuously monitor account performance, competitive activity, market developments, and changes.
Business Development & Commercial Management
- Identify, develop, and convert new opportunities within existing and prospective government accounts.
- Own the sales cycle from opportunity identification and qualification through proposal development, negotiation, and closure.
- Manage account pipelines and maintain accurate sales forecasts, opportunity status, and action plans.
- Lead commercial discussions and negotiations while ensuring alignment with internal pricing, profitability, governance, and approval requirements.
- Coordinate responses to government tenders, framework agreements, and other formal procurement processes.
- Ensure opportunities are commercially viable and aligned with the organization's strategic and financial objectives.
- Drive achievement of assigned revenue, profitability, market share, and other account-level KPIs.
Operational Account Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned customers and take ownership of day-to-day account requirements.
- Translate customer requirements into clear internal actions and coordinate execution across relevant functions.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Sales, Marketing, or a related discipline.
- Typically 13+ years of relevant experience in Key Account Management, B2B Sales, Enterprise Sales, or Business Development.
- Proven experience managing government and/or public-sector accounts is required.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex strategic accounts involving multiple stakeholders and extended sales cycles.
- Strong understanding of government procurement processes, tenders, commercial negotiations, and contracting environments.
- Proven track record of achieving revenue targets and developing sustainable business within strategic accounts.
- Experience managing both the strategic and operational aspects of customer accounts.
