DescriptionDirector, Infrastructure - Power & Utilities, RiyadhAbout Alvarez & MarsalAlvarez & Marsal (A&M) is a global consulting firm with entrepreneurial, action and results-oriented professionals. We take a hands-on approach to solving our clients' problems and assisting them in reaching their potential. Our culture celebrates independent thinkers and doers who positively impact our clients and shape our industry. The collaborative environment and engaging work—guided by A&M's core values of Integrity, Quality, Objectivity, Fun, Personal Reward, and Inclusive Diversity—are why our people love working at A&M.
How You Will Contribute
- * Run the day-to-day delivery of major workstreams or smaller engagements. The Director is expected to be the senior client counterpart on the ground and to keep the work moving without waiting for direction.
- Structure ambiguous problems, set the analytical path and lead the team to a clear answer across capital projects, operational performance, utility transformation, market and regulatory questions, and investment decisions.
- Lead asset and portfolio work across generation, transmission and distribution, renewables and storage, water and desalination, data center (digital infrastructure), cooling, waste, and integrated utility systems. Keep the link between technical performance and economic outcome visible.
- Build robust fact bases, business cases, benchmarks, value bridges and implementation plans that make the financial and operational implications clear.
- Turn findings into action. This may include delivery governance, PMO or control-tower disciplines, operational improvement, contract and claims actions, or value-capture tracking.
- Stay close to the client. Lead working sessions and steering meetings, handle difficult conversations well and produce concise materials that make the decision and next action clear.
- Help create the next piece of work by spotting follow-on needs, shaping proposals, developing client-specific points of view and contributing actively to account plans and pursuits.
- Bring A&M specialists and external experts into the work when needed, and make sure the client receives one integrated answer rather than a collection of separate work products.
- Own project quality, scope, schedule, team performance and engagement economics. Coach Managers and junior team members and contribute to the continued development of the P&U practice.
Qualifications
- * Bachelor's or master's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Finance, Economics or a related field. An MBA or equivalent postgraduate business qualification is a plus, not a requirement.
- 8+ years of relevant experience in Power & Utilities, infrastructure, energy or water, data center (digital infrastructure), cooling and waste with meaningful project, advisory or operating exposure in the Middle East and/or Africa.
- Depth in at least one core P&U area, together with enough breadth to work across adjacent parts of the utility value chain.
- Experience gained in consulting, advisory, a utility or developer, EPC and capital projects, infrastructure investment, or a relevant government or regulatory organization.
- Evidence of leading multidisciplinary teams, working through incomplete information and turning analysis into practical client actions.
- Commercial awareness and growing business-development capability, including proposal development, client relationship management and negotiation.
- Arabic language capability is a plus. Willingness to travel across the Middle East and Africa is required.
- Credibility with technical, operational, financial and executive stakeholders, and the ability to bridge between them without losing the detail.
- Strong analytical instincts and a healthy skepticism of easy answers. Comfortable testing assumptions and working with imperfect data.
- A hands-on style. Willing to work alongside client teams through implementation rather than stop at the recommendation.
- Clear, concise writing and communication. Able to turn a complicated P&U issue into a decision that a senior client can act on.
- Entrepreneurial, collaborative and comfortable in a demanding consulting environment where priorities move quickly.
