Command Post is seeking an experienced, hands-on Data Governance Consultant to support a major client engagement in Qatar.
This role combines the implementation of data governance operating models with practical expertise in metadata management, data lineage, data quality, and Microsoft Purview enablement.
The successful candidate will collaborate closely with business and technology stakeholders to improve data discoverability, transparency, reliability, and governance across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- * Develop, implement, and enhance data governance frameworks, policies, standards, procedures, and operating models aligned with organisational objectives.
- Define and establish accountability for Data Owners, Data Stewards, and Data Custodians, including RACI matrices, governance forums, and escalation procedures.
- Develop and maintain business glossaries, metadata standards, data domains, Critical Data Elements (CDEs), and authoritative data source definitions.
- Document end-to-end data lineage and data flows across applications, databases, interfaces, reporting systems, analytics platforms, and third-party integrations.
- Configure, implement, and manage Microsoft Purview capabilities, including Data Map, data source registration and scanning, Data Catalog, business glossary, classifications, sensitivity labels, lineage, and insights.
- Collaborate with data engineering and application teams to validate automated lineage, identify metadata gaps, and establish sustainable maintenance processes.
- Define data quality rules, KPIs, thresholds, and controls; monitor data quality issues, conduct root-cause analysis, and track remediation activities through closure.
- Support data classification, retention, privacy, access control, and data lifecycle requirements in coordination with security, privacy, compliance, and legal teams.
- Facilitate stakeholder workshops and interviews, translate business requirements into actionable governance deliverables, and communicate progress through dashboards and management reports.
- Prepare documentation and supporting evidence for assurance and audit activities while promoting governance adoption through training, guidance, and practical coaching.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- * Minimum 5 years of practical experience in Data Governance, Data Management, Metadata Management, Data Quality, or a closely related discipline.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview or a comparable enterprise data catalog and governance platform. Microsoft Purview experience is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and validating business and technical data lineage, process maps, and data-flow documentation.
- Strong understanding of data cataloguing, business glossaries, data stewardship, Critical Data Elements, data classification, and data quality management.
- Proven ability to collaborate with Data Owners, business SMEs, architects, engineers, analysts, security teams, and senior stakeholders in a client-facing environment.
- Strong analytical, stakeholder engagement, workshop facilitation, documentation, communication, and presentation skills.
- A delivery-focused, collaborative approach with the ability to translate governance requirements into practical operational outcomes.
- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Management, Business, Engineering, or a relevant discipline.
Desirable Skills & CertificationsThe following qualifications and experience will be considered advantageous:
- Knowledge of DAMA-DMBOK, CDMP, or relevant Microsoft Azure / Purview certifications.
- Experience with governance, privacy, or metadata management platforms such as Collibra, Informatica, OneTrust, BigID, or Fides.
- Familiarity with relevant privacy and regulatory frameworks, including Qatar PDPL, Qatar NIA, QCB requirements, and GDPR.
- Exposure to cloud and hybrid data environments, Business Intelligence (BI), analytics platforms, privacy engineering, and AI governance.
- Understanding of ISO 27001 and ISO 27701 standards.
