Cost Engineer
We are looking for an analytical Cost Engineer to support complex technical and infrastructure projects. In this role, you will be responsible for developing reliable cost estimates, assessing quotations, identifying cost-saving opportunities and providing clear cost advice throughout the project lifecycle.
You will work closely with project teams, engineering, procurement, finance, planning and other stakeholders to ensure that projects are financially well-founded and that cost considerations are accurately incorporated into decision-making.
Your responsibilities
- Analyse technical specifications, project documentation, tenders and requests for quotations to develop accurate and realistic cost estimates.
- Prepare detailed cost calculations, budgets and investment estimates for complex projects.
- Request, analyse and evaluate quotations from suppliers, contractors and subcontractors.
- Assess costs, risks and potential savings and provide advice on cost optimisation.
- Monitor and evaluate project costs and budgets throughout the project lifecycle.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary project teams and internal departments to ensure all relevant cost aspects are taken into account.
- Review contractor and supplier proposals and assess their commercial and financial implications.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of cost estimation and cost management processes.
- Present and explain cost estimates and recommendations to project managers, engineers and other stakeholders.
- Support the handover from the estimating/tender phase to the project execution team.
- Analyse completed projects and previous estimates to identify lessons learned and improve future estimates.
- Where applicable, provide functional guidance to junior cost engineers.
- Work on projects that vary significantly in size, complexity and technical scope.
Your profile
- Bachelor’s degree / HBO level in a technical, construction, engineering or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience in cost engineering, estimating, cost management or project controls within a technical or infrastructure environment.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills, with an eye for detail and accuracy.
- Experience interpreting technical documentation and translating technical requirements into financial estimates.
- Knowledge of relevant cost estimation and project management processes.
- Experience working with suppliers, contractors and other external stakeholders.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Able to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and complex stakeholder environments.
- Strong planning and organisational skills.
- Proactive, pragmatic and results-oriented approach.
- Able to balance commercial considerations with technical and project requirements.
