About the Opportunity
Insight Global is seeking a Controls Technician to join an innovative manufacturing organization focused on supporting critical industries including defense, aerospace, and automotive. This individual will play a key role in maintaining and improving the reliability of pilot manufacturing operations by troubleshooting automated equipment, supporting controls systems, and implementing routine PLC and HMI updates. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with industrial automation experience who enjoys hands-on troubleshooting, continuous improvement, and working closely with engineering and production teams.
Required Skills & Experience
- High school diploma or GED
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled industrial or manufacturing equipment
- Ability to read and understand PLC ladder logic
- Experience making and testing PLC or HMI changes in a live production environment
- Ability to troubleshoot issues across PLC programs, I/O devices, instrumentation, and operator interfaces
- Ability to read electrical schematics and controls documentation
- Experience using electrical troubleshooting tools such as digital multimeters
- Strong documentation and organizational skills
- Experience with wiring, soldering, and electrical troubleshooting
- Must be a U.S. Person due to access requirements for export-controlled facilities and information
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Experience with Rockwell Studio 5000, RSLogix, or Siemens TIA Portal
- Experience configuring HMI screens, tags, recipes, and operating parameters
- Familiarity with Ignition or other industrial SCADA platforms
- Experience troubleshooting industrial drives, instrumentation, or control panels
- Ability to create and interpret digital electrical schematics
- Experience with industrial networking infrastructure
- Comfortable using basic hand and power tools
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Serve as the first point of support for PLC, HMI, I/O, drive, instrumentation, and industrial communication issues
- Troubleshoot and resolve controls-related equipment failures while partnering with engineers, technicians, and equipment vendors
- Implement and validate routine PLC logic, HMI screen, recipe, tag, and parameter updates
- Test system changes in production environments to ensure equipment reliability and operational effectiveness
- Document control system modifications, approvals, testing results, and software revisions to maintain accurate records
- Review electrical drawings, schematics, and controls documentation to support troubleshooting efforts
- Update I/O lists and controls documentation following approved changes
- Coordinate maintenance and change windows with production and engineering teams
- Support electrical technicians with code-level troubleshooting and controls diagnostics
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance equipment reliability, performance, and traceability
