Primary Purpose of the Organization:Fayetteville State University’s Office of College Access Programs is designed to provide low-income/potential first-generation college students (enrolled in grades 6-12) with academic support services that will enhance their academic skills, thereby ensuring that these students will complete high school and enroll in and complete programs of postsecondary education.
The mission of GEAR UP is to prepare middle and high school students for college through academic preparation programs and scholarships for students, professional development activities for educators, and college access information for students and parents.
Primary Purpose of the Position:The primary purpose of the position is to assist the director in overseeing the newly funded GEAR UP Program and designing comprehensive educational experiences for students in middle and high school. The assistant director works with secondary schools to improve their academic preparation and provide academic support sessions to help prepare them for post-secondary education.
This position is funded by non-state funds and has been designated time limited. Continuation of this position is contingent upon the continuing availability of those funds.Minimum Education And Experience Requirements:
- * Master’s degree in education, counseling, sociology, psychology, social work, public administration, business administration, communications, mathematics, science, or a related field.
- Minimum Experience Requirements:Five years of progressively responsible experience in educational program administration, college access, academic support, or a related area. Qualifying experience must include:
- Developing or coordinating academic support or college preparation services for middle or high school students.
- Administering grant-funded activities, including budget monitoring and performance reporting.
- Coordinating services with schools, families, or community partners.
- Supervising staff or providing formal team leadership, including assigning work and monitoring performance.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:
- * Knowledge of the PK-16 pipeline; be familiar with Education Department General Administrative Regulations ( EDGAR ); have the ability to successfully implement youth programs that promote early college awareness.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills and creative problem-solving skills; strong personal characteristics such as optimism, loyalty and commitment, as well as a high level of motivation and energy.
- Must have the temperament for work in a team environment and with middle and high school students.
Preferred Qualifications:
- * Five years’ experience working with TRIO , GEAR UP and/or other college access programs.
- Experience in a supervisory role.
