The RoleWe are seeking an experienced Senior Succession Planning Specialist to lead succession planning frameworks, critical-role assessments, leadership pipeline development, talent reviews, readiness evaluations, and succession-related development initiatives.
The ideal candidate will combine strategic workforce planning, talent analytics, leadership development, and stakeholder advisory skills to identify future talent needs, assess internal talent, develop succession strategies, and strengthen organizational readiness for key leadership and specialist positions.
Key Responsibilities
- * Develop and implement succession planning frameworks, methodologies, policies, and procedures aligned with organizational strategy.
- Establish succession planning standards, governance arrangements, review cycles, and decision-making processes.
- Partner with senior leadership and HR business partners to identify critical roles across the organization.
- Define criteria for critical-role identification based on strategic importance, business impact, specialist knowledge, and replacement difficulty.
- Conduct critical-role assessments and maintain an up-to-date inventory of positions requiring succession coverage.
- Develop succession plans for executive, senior management, leadership, and business-critical specialist positions.
- Identify potential successors for critical roles using structured, transparent, and evidence-based assessment criteria.
- Coordinate annual and periodic talent reviews with business leaders and HR stakeholders.
- Facilitate succession planning discussions during talent review meetings and leadership calibration sessions.
- Assess successor readiness using consistent criteria, including performance, potential, experience, capability, and development progress.
- Distinguish between immediate readiness, near-term readiness, and longer-term development potential.
- Maintain succession pipelines and successor pools for critical roles and leadership levels.
- Identify gaps in succession coverage and develop targeted plans to address them.
- Assess the depth and resilience of leadership pipelines across functions, locations, and business units.

- Work with Talent Management teams to identify high-potential employees and emerging leaders.

- Coordinate leadership assessments, competency evaluations, psychometric assessments, and development-centre activities where appropriate.
- Interpret assessment findings and translate them into practical succession recommendations.
- Ensure succession decisions are supported by relevant evidence and consistent assessment practices.
- Develop individual development plans for identified successors and high-potential employees.
- Partner with Learning and Development to create targeted leadership development pathways.
- Recommend stretch assignments, job rotations, mentoring, coaching, project leadership, and cross-functional exposure to accelerate readiness.
- Coordinate executive coaching and leadership development interventions where appropriate.
- Track successor development milestones, capability improvements, and readiness progression.
- Review succession plans regularly to reflect changes in business strategy, organizational structure, talent availability, and employee career intentions.
- Monitor successor retention risks and identify employees whose departure could create significant capability gaps.
- Partner with HR business partners and managers to develop retention and engagement approaches for critical talent.
- Support workforce planning by identifying future leadership and specialist capability requirements.
- Assess the potential impact of retirements, internal movements, promotions, organizational changes, and external recruitment needs.
- Coordinate succession planning for newly created roles, reorganized functions, and expanding business units.
- Develop contingency succession plans for sudden departures, extended absences, and other unexpected leadership vacancies.
- Support emergency succession arrangements and continuity planning for business-critical positions.
- Work with recruitment teams to identify external talent options where internal successor coverage is insufficient.

- Establish key performance indicators and reporting standards for succession planning effectiveness.
- Analyze succession data to identify coverage gaps, concentration risks, leadership capability shortages, and workforce vulnerabilities.
- Provide senior management with regular reports on succession readiness, leadership pipeline health, and priority talent risks.
- Benchmark succession planning practices against recognized talent-management approaches and relevant industry practices.
