Black Star is looking for a technically strong Presales Engineer – Oil & Gas Software & Instrumentation to support the growth of our petroleum technology business.
This is a customer-facing technical role working with oil companies, production organizations, refineries, engineering teams, and technology partners to identify operational challenges and develop solutions across petroleum software, production optimization, measurement, instrumentation, and digital oilfield technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with petroleum, production, operations, engineering, and instrumentation teams to understand technical requirements.
- Support customer meetings, technical presentations, workshops, and demonstrations.
- Translate operational challenges into suitable software and instrumentation solutions.
- Prepare technical proposals, BoQs, scopes of work, compliance sheets, and solution architectures.
- Support software demonstrations, proof of concepts, and technical evaluations.
- Support tenders and RFQs from technical review through submission.
- Participate in field visits, site surveys, and technical assessments.
- Coordinate with OEMs and technology partners on solution design, sizing, and configuration.
- Support project handover from presales to implementation and delivery.
- Travel regularly to customer sites across Iraq.
Preferred Software & Domain Experience
Experience with software used across one or more of the following oil & gas domains is highly desirable:
- Production forecasting, reserves and economics — Val Nav, PEEP, ARIES, PetroVR, Merak Peep
- Field development planning and production optimization — Enersight, Petrel, OFM, Prosper, GAP
- Hydrocarbon measurement, allocation and flow data management — FLOWCAL, Energy Components, PI System, Flow-X, measurement management platforms
- Well lifecycle, AFE, capital planning and operational scheduling — Execute, WellView, OpenWells, Primavera P6
- Production operations and surveillance — Upstream On Demand, Avocet, OFM, PI Vision, production monitoring platforms
- Reservoir engineering and simulation — Eclipse, INTERSECT, CMG, tNavigator
- Process simulation and engineering — Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, CHEMCAD, UniSim
- Asset performance and maintenance — IBM Maximo, SAP PM, Aspen Mtell, AVEVA Asset Performance Management
- SCADA, historian and industrial data platforms — AVEVA PI System, Honeywell Experion, Emerson DeltaV, Siemens PCS 7
- Digital oilfield, integration and operational analytics — OSDU-based platforms, Cognite Data Fusion, SLB DELFI, industrial data integration platforms
Instrumentation Experience
- Experience in one or more of the following is an advantage:
- Flow meters and metering systems
- Pressure, temperature, level, and flow instrumentation
- Flow computers
- Custody transfer and allocation measurement
- PLC / RTU / SCADA systems
- Field sensors and transmitters
- Remote monitoring and telemetry
- Calibration and measurement systems
- Production facility instrumentation
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Instrumentation & Control, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
- 3+ years of experience in oil & gas, production engineering, instrumentation, petroleum software, or technical presales.
- Good understanding of upstream production operations and oilfield workflows.
- Familiarity with petroleum software and/or field instrumentation.
- Strong technical presentation and customer engagement skills.
- Ability to understand customer requirements and develop technical solutions.
- Ability to interpret specifications and prepare technical proposals.
- Comfortable working with engineering, operations, IT, and management stakeholders.
- Arabic and English proficiency required.
- Willingness to travel extensively across Iraq.
