School: Engineering
Discipline: Petroleum Engineering
Vacancy Date: Spring 2027
The Petroleum Engineering Program invites applicants for part-time teaching positions in Byblos campus for the Spring 2026 semester (from January 14, 2027 to May 14, 2027) to teach courses in Petroleum Engineering Program at the undergraduate level.
PTE212 Programing for Petroleum Engineering [2–1, 3 cr.]
Principles of computer programming using MATLAB for acquiring fundamentals knowledge and skills to solve chemical and petroleum engineering problems, use of arrays, matrices, loops, if statements, subroutines functions, ordinarily differential equations (ODEs), finite difference methods, fitting, optimization, sensitivity analysis, plotting and tabulation of output results, case studies for chemical and petroleum engineering. Co-requisite: MTH201 Calculus III and CHE200 Chemical Engineering Fundamentals.
PTE330 Well Drilling [3–0, 3 cr.]
Introduction to drilling systems; equipment functions, performance, and design considerations of rotating system, hoisting system, and circulation system; drilling fluids calculations and selections; directional drilling; hydraulic programs; drilling optimization; casing string design; cementing techniques; well planning and control; drilling hydraulics; formulation evaluation and well completion; well deliverability; artificial lift; and drilling problems. Prerequisites: PTE200 Introduction to Petroleum Engineering and CIE204 Geology for Engineers.
PTE460 Natural Gas Engineering [3–0, 3 cr.]
Analysis of four-point gas deliverability tests and gas well pressure transient tests, methods for determining wet gas and condensate reserves in volumetric and water drive reservoirs, gas inflow performance equations and methods of forecasting future production rates, essential surface facilities and methods for handling sour gas and hydrates. Prerequisite: PTE322 Fundamentals of Reservoir Engineering.
PTE405 AI in Petroleum Engineering [2-0, 2 cr.] This course provides a comprehensive introduction to machine learning (ML) and data-driven methods, with an introduction to neural networks and artificial intelligence (AI), in the context of chemical and petroleum engineering. Students learn how these computational tools support process modeling, optimization, control, safety, materials discovery, and sustainability. The course develops problem-solving skills, programming proficiency, and data analysis capabilities, enabling students to apply ML-driven solutions to real-world challenges in chemical and petroleum engineering. Pre-requisite: PTE212 Programming for Petroleum Engineering, GNE 331 Probability and Statistics, and Fourth year standing in Chemical Engineering, Co-requisite: PTE406 AI in Petroleum Engineering – Lab.
PTE406 AI in Petroleum Engineering - Lab [1-2, 1 cr.] The laboratory component of this course provides hands-on experience with AI and machine learning techniques applied to chemical engineering systems. Students work directly with experimental, industrial, and simulated process datasets to develop data-driven models, perform process monitoring, implement hybrid modeling approaches, and build predictive tools used in real chemical engineering practice. Each lab focuses on applying theoretical concepts to practical problem-solving through Python-based analysis, model development, and visualization. Students gain experience in data handling, model training and evaluation, optimization, and interpretation of results to support decision-making in chemical processes. Co-requisite PTE405 AI in Petroleum Engineering.
Qualifications: The applicant must have obtained a PhD degree in Petroleum Engineering or a related field by the time of appointment.
Applicants must have good oral and written English communication skills. Priority will be given to applicants with prior teaching experience or relevant work experience.
