School: Engineering
Discipline: Chemical Engineering
Vacancy Date: Spring 2027
The Chemical Engineering Program invites applicants for part-time teaching positions in Byblos campus for the Spring 2027 semester (from January 14, 2027 to May 14, 2027). We are seeking highly qualified and motivated faculty member to teach courses in Chemical Engineering Program at the undergraduate level.
CHE200 Chemical Engineering Fundamentals [3–0, 3 cr.]
Overview of chemical and process engineering, introductory principles of Stoichiometry of chemical reactions, material balances in reactors and separation units, material balances in chemical processes, and energy balances in chemical processes, and introduction to practical engineering problems. Co-requisites: CHM 201 Chemical Principles.
CHE434 Chemical Engineering Profession [2–0, 2 cr.]
Introduction to the history and heritage of chemical engineering; specialized sub disciplines; professionalism and professional registration and societies; continuing education; impact of historical and contemporary issues on the identification, formulation, and solution of engineering problems , impact of engineering solutions on the economy, environment, political landscape, and society. The course involves teamwork researching topics related to the impact of contemporary engineering solutions.
CHE405 AI in Chemical Engineering [2–0, 2 cr.]
This course provides a comprehensive introduction to machine learning (ML) and data-driven methods, with an introduction to neural networks and artificial intelligence (AI), in the context of chemical and petroleum engineering. Students learn how these computational tools support process modeling, optimization, control, safety, materials discovery, and sustainability. The course develops problem-solving skills, programming proficiency, and data analysis capabilities, enabling students to apply ML-driven solutions to real-world challenges in chemical and petroleum engineering. Pre-requisite: CHE212 Programming for Chemical Engineering, GNE 331 Probability and Statistics, and Fourth year standing in Chemical Engineering, Co-requisite: CHE406 AI in Chemical Engineering – Lab
CHE406 AI in Chemical Engineering – Lab [1–2, 1 cr.]
The laboratory component of this course provides hands-on experience with AI and machine learning techniques applied to chemical engineering systems. Students work directly with experimental, industrial, and simulated process datasets to develop data-driven models, perform process monitoring, implement hybrid modeling approaches, and build predictive tools used in real chemical engineering practice. Each lab focuses on applying theoretical concepts to practical problem-solving through Python-based analysis, model development, and visualization. Students gain experience in data handling, model training and evaluation, optimization, and interpretation of results to support decision-making in chemical processes. Co-requisite CHE405 AI in Chemical Engineering.
In addition, there is a need for teaching one or more of the following technical electives:
- CHE502 Bioprocess engineering
- CHE546 Corrosion Engineering
- CHE554 Process control strategies
- CHE555 Microprocessors in Process Control
- CHE556 Advanced Process Control
- CHE557 Bioseparation Engineering
- CHE572 Biofuels Engineering Technology
- CHE573 Electrochemical Energy Systems
Qualifications: The applicant must have obtained a PhD degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field by the time of appointment.
Applicants must have good oral and written English communication skills. Priority will be given to applicants with prior teaching experience or relevant work experience.
