Role DescriptionThe Microsoft 365 Consultant is responsible for helping organizations plan, implement, optimize, and manage Microsoft 365 solutions that support secure, efficient, and collaborative digital workplaces. This role combines technical consulting, solution design, platform administration, user support, and continuous improvement across the Microsoft 365 ecosystem.
The position works closely with business stakeholders, IT teams, and technical users to understand organizational requirements and translate them into practical Microsoft 365 solutions. Responsibilities may span Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online, Exchange Online, OneDrive, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Defender, Power Platform, and other services within the Microsoft cloud environment.
Key responsibilities include assessing existing Microsoft 365 environments, identifying opportunities for improvement, and designing solutions aligned with business and technical requirements. The consultant supports tenant configuration, user and group management, licensing, identity and access controls, security policies, collaboration tools, and cloud-based productivity services.
The role also involves supporting Microsoft Teams and SharePoint environments, including collaboration structures, permissions, document management, communication workflows, and integration requirements. The consultant may assist with Exchange Online administration, mailbox configuration, email security, migration activities, retention policies, and related Microsoft 365 services.
A strong focus is placed on security, governance, compliance, and operational reliability. The consultant helps establish appropriate access controls, authentication policies, endpoint management practices, data protection measures, and security configurations while supporting organizational standards and regulatory requirements.
The role may also contribute to Microsoft 365 migrations, tenant-to-tenant projects, service upgrades, application integrations, and digital workplace transformation initiatives. This includes planning activities, coordinating technical tasks, validating configurations, resolving issues, and supporting users throughout implementation.
Automation and process improvement are important aspects of the position. The consultant may use PowerShell, Microsoft Graph, Power Automate, or other Microsoft tools to streamline administration, reporting, provisioning, monitoring, and recurring operational tasks.
Clear documentation is expected across configurations, procedures, architecture, security settings, troubleshooting processes, and operational standards. The consultant should also be comfortable communicating technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders and providing practical recommendations based on business needs.
Qualifications
- * Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field is preferred.
- Strong understanding of the Microsoft 365 platform and its core cloud services.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Exchange Online, and Microsoft Entra ID.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Intune, endpoint management, Microsoft Defender, and Microsoft Purview is highly valuable.
- Understanding of Microsoft 365 administration, tenant configuration, licensing, identity management, and access controls.
- Familiarity with Azure cloud concepts, hybrid environments, and Microsoft cloud architecture.
- Knowledge of authentication technologies such as MFA, Conditional Access, SSO, and identity governance.
- Understanding of Microsoft 365 security, compliance, data protection, retention, and governance principles.
- Familiarity with PowerShell, Microsoft Graph, Power Automate, or other automation technologies.
- Ability to analyze technical requirements and translate business needs into practical Microsoft 365 solutions.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities across cloud applications, identity, collaboration, and productivity platforms.
- Ability to interpret system logs, service alerts, configuration settings, and technical documentation.
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 migration, deployment, integration, and change-management activities.
- Strong documentation and organizational skills with attention to configuration accuracy and operational detail.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to different audiences.
- Ability to collaborate with IT, security, infrastructure, business, and end-user teams.
- A structured approach to security, governance, service reliability, and continuous platform improvement.
- Microsoft certifications such as Microsoft 365 Certified: Administrator Expert, Azure certifications, or related credentials are welcomed but not mandatory.
