About The AssignmentYou will join a Data Governance initiative led by the Data Management team. Data Governance is not a separate activity performed alongside the business. It is part of how the business works with its processes and data every day.
Each process has a Data Owner who is accountable for the data created and managed within it, supported by one or more Data Stewards who work hands on with the data, its meaning, quality and governance. The Data Management team provides the framework, methods and tools that make this possible. Together they establish clear ownership, common definitions, data quality requirements and trusted data products across the data domains.
As a Data Governance Expert, you will be an important link between the Data Management team and the business. You will help Data Owners and Data Stewards make Data Governance a natural part of their existing processes and ways of working.
Your roleYou will support Data Stewards and Data Owners in implementing the Data Governance framework within their processes and data domains. Your responsibilities will include:
- Embedding Data Governance in business processes: Work with Data Owners and Data Stewards to find practical ways of building data ownership, data quality and data management into existing processes.
- Making data understandable: Facilitate initiatives that create a clear understanding of the meaning, context and business relevance of data, and make sure this knowledge is documented and easy to find in the Data Catalog.
- Turning data into products: Identify opportunities for trusted data products that can be delivered by the domain data team.
- Driving data quality: Translate business needs into data quality requirements, lead the implementation of automated data quality checks, and make data quality transparent and monitorable.
- Connecting business and technology: Work across organisational boundaries to turn business needs into practical data governance solutions and help build a stronger data driven organisation.
Who you areYou combine business understanding, analytical thinking and a genuine interest in data. You bring:
- A business mindset and a passion for the potential of data to create business value
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to explore data, identify patterns and understand problems
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain data topics to different audiences
- Strong networking and collaboration skills, with an ability to build relationships across business and IT
- Experience from business development, for example as a Business Analyst or in a similar role
- Experience of data quality initiatives
- Experience of implementing a Data Catalog, preferably Collibra
- An understanding of databases and data concepts, such as data warehouses, data lakes and data modelling
