We are currently looking for an Asset Engineer - Instrument for Doha, Qatar.Mission:Reporting to the Asset Manager, the Asset Engineer – Instrument is responsible for the technical asset management, condition, reliability, availability and lifecycle optimization of instrumentation, automation, PLC, SCADA and control assets across wastewater treatment plants. The role focuses on asset condition, reliability, maintenance optimization, calibration, failure analysis, obsolescence, lifecycle planning and performance improvement.
Responsibilities:
Asset Management & Lifecycle
- Develop and implement instrumentation and control asset management plans in line with the overall asset management strategy.
- Manage the lifecycle of instrumentation and automation assets from acquisition and installation through operation, maintenance, upgrade, replacement and disposal.
- Maintain accurate asset registers covering process instruments, PLC, SCADA, RTU, control panels, actuators, control valves and related assets.
- Assess asset health, criticality, remaining useful life, obsolescence and replacement/renewal requirements.
- Conduct Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality (FMECA) and Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) studies.
Instrumentation, Automation & Reliability
- * Monitor flow, level, pressure, temperature and analytical instruments including pH/ORP, DO, turbidity and chlorine analyzers.
- Manage PLC, SCADA, RTU, control, communication, actuator and automation assets and identify reliability risks.
- Develop and review preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance and calibration strategies for critical instrumentation and automation assets.
- Analyze alarm history, calibration results, failures, downtime and recurring faults to identify reliability improvements.
Failure, Risk & Performance
- * Support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of critical instrumentation, PLC, SCADA and control system failures.
- Monitor availability, failure frequency, downtime, MTBF, MTTR, calibration performance and recurring faults.
- Identify obsolete, unsupported, unreliable or high-risk instruments and automation systems and recommend replacement or upgrade.
- Assess risks related to compatibility, obsolescence, OEM support, spare parts and cybersecurity and develop mitigation plans.
Projects, Calibration & Technical Support
- * Review technical specifications, datasheets, drawings, control philosophies, I/O lists, instrument schedules and technical submissions.
- Provide technical input for procurement, replacement, refurbishment, upgrading, calibration and commissioning.
- Monitor calibration requirements and ensure critical instruments are maintained and calibrated to approved schedules.
- Coordinate with Operations, Maintenance, Electrical, Mechanical, Process, IT/SCADA teams, OEMs and system integrators.
Asset Data, Reporting & Improvement
- * Ensure asset data, calibration history, maintenance records and technical documentation are accurately maintained in the CMMS, ERP or Asset Management System.
- Support lifecycle cost and Total Cost of Ownership assessments and replacement/renewal forecasts.
- Prepare reports covering asset condition, reliability, failures, criticality, obsolescence, maintenance requirements and replacement priorities.
- Promote continuous improvement in instrumentation, automation, control system reliability and lifecycle management.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- * Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation & Control, Electronics, Automation Engineering or equivalent.
- Typically 5–8 years of relevant experience in instrumentation, automation, control systems, reliability or asset management.
- Experience in wastewater treatment, water utilities, process plants or industrial O&M is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of PLC, SCADA, instrumentation, calibration, process measurement and control systems.
- Experience with CMMS, ERP or Asset Management Systems.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting and reporting skills; fluent English.
