Africell, the pan-African mobile telecommunications company, is recruiting an AI Team Lead, to be based in Connect Hub, Lebanon.
Role responsibilities:
The AI Team Lead will lead the design, development, and deployment of enterprise AI, Machine Learning, and Generative AI solutions. The role combines strong hands-on technical expertise with team leadership, solution architecture, and AI strategy. The AI Team Lead will work closely with data scientists, AI/ML engineers, data engineers, software developers, and business stakeholders to identify high-value AI opportunities and transform them into scalable, secure, and production-ready solutions.
Role Outputs
- Lead the AI team and oversee the end-to-end delivery of AI, Machine Learning, Generative AI, NLP, RAG, and AI Agent solutions.
- Translate business requirements and operational challenges into practical AI use cases, technical architecture, and implementation roadmaps.
- Design, develop, and review production-grade machine learning and deep learning models for use cases such as forecasting, classification, segmentation, anomaly detection, recommendation, churn prediction, and predictive analytics.
- Lead the development of LLM-based applications, including AI agents, enterprise copilots, conversational assistants, and workflow automation solutions.
- Design and implement Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures.
- Develop AI agents capable of API interaction, data retrieval, SQL analytics, and execution of business workflows.
- Evaluate and select appropriate LLMs, machine learning models, frameworks, and AI technologies based on accuracy, latency, scalability, security, and cost.
- Architect scalable AI services and APIs and oversee their integration with enterprise applications, data platforms, and operational systems.
- Establish MLOps and LLMOps practices covering model deployment, monitoring, prompt management, and model lifecycle management.
- Define evaluation frameworks for AI and LLM solutions, including accuracy, hallucination rate, retrieval quality, latency, reliability, cost, and business impact.
- Optimize AI solutions for inference performance, token consumption, caching, infrastructure utilization, latency, and overall operating cost without compromising quality.
- Assess cloud-based AI deployments across platforms.
- Define technical standards, reusable AI components, development best practices, governance principles, and documentation standards for the AI team.
- Mentor and guide Data Scientists, AI/ML Engineers, and other technical team members through architecture reviews, code reviews, experimentation, and knowledge sharing.
- Collaborate with Data Engineering, Software Engineering, BI, Product, Commercial, and other business teams to ensure AI solutions are supported by reliable data and integrated effectively into existing platforms.
- Monitor deployed AI solutions and continuously improve model accuracy, reliability, performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
- Evaluate emerging AI technologies, open-source models, frameworks, and research developments and assess their potential adoption within the organization.
- Communicate AI performance, business impact, risks, technical trade-offs, and implementation progress to senior management and business stakeholders.
- Design, develop, and implement machine learning models tailored to telecom use cases.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
You will work with the Africell’s teams to achieve the contribution to Africell’s mission of bringing affordable, fast, and secure mobile connectivity to millions of customers across Africa.
The ideal applicant will also have:
- 5+ years of experience in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, or related fields, with experience leading technical projects or AI teams.
- Strong proficiency in Python and SQL.
- Strong understanding of machine learning, deep learning, NLP, Generative AI, LLMs, RAG, and AI Agents.
- Hands-on experience building and deploying production AI/ML solutions.
- Experience with LLM APIs, open-source models, embeddings, vector databases, prompt engineering, function/tool calling, and LLM evaluation.
- Experience with machine learning and deep learning frameworks such as Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
- Experience with cloud AI platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Knowledge of MLOps/LLMOps practices, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, model monitoring, and API-based deployment architectures.
- Strong understanding of data pipelines, model lifecycle management, system integration, and production AI architecture.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor technical team members and lead multiple AI initiatives from concept through production.
