Role OverviewAs a Wiring Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, routing, and documenting wire harness systems using SolidWorks Electrical, covering the full lifecycle from concept development to manufacturing release. This role is critical in ensuring robust, reliable, and standards-compliant electrical interconnections across UAV and aerospace platforms, with strong focus on design accuracy, manufacturability, and system integration.
Key Responsibilities
- * Design and develop wiring harnesses using SolidWorks Electrical and related CAD tools
- Create complete system wiring schematics including connectors, pinouts, shielding, and interconnections
- Define wire specifications (gauge, insulation, routing paths) based on current load, voltage drop, and system requirements
- Optimize harness routing considering mechanical constraints, vibration zones, moving parts, and integration challenges
- Develop and maintain component libraries, wire lists, BOMs, and detailed manufacturing documentation
- Prepare accurate manufacturing drawings and release documentation for production teams
- Ensure compliance with aerospace/UAV standards, electrical safety standards, and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles
- Support prototype builds, testing, troubleshooting, and validation activities
- Perform or support continuity testing and fault diagnosis of harness systems
- Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, and production teams for seamless system integration and assembly
- Work with suppliers and internal teams to ensure manufacturability and quality of harness assemblies
- Design solutions suitable for harsh environments (temperature, vibration, moisture)
Qualifications & Experience
- * Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
- Minimum 2+ years of hands-on experience in wiring harness design or electrical drafting
- Experience in aerospace, UAV, automotive, or other high-reliability engineering environments preferred
- Proven experience handling full-cycle harness development (concept to production release)
- Strong experience in electrical schematics and documentation
Technical Skills & CompetenciesWiring Harness Design
- Hands-on experience in designing complex harness systems
- Experience working on UAV, aerospace, or automotive platforms
- Exposure to full lifecycle design and release processes
Electrical Design & Schematics
- Proficiency in tools such as SolidWorks Electrical, Altium, EPLAN, KiCad
- Ability to design full system schematics including connectors, shielding, and interconnections
- Knowledge of current load calculations, voltage drop, and wire sizing
- Experience working with different system voltage levels
Harness Routing & Integration
- Experience with 3D routing tools (SolidWorks Routing, SolidWorks Electrical 3D, CATIA, NX, etc.)
- Strong understanding of bend radius, strain relief, and cable management strategies
- Experience designing harnesses for dynamic/moving assemblies and vibration-prone environments
- Ability to manage large and complex harness assemblies
Manufacturing & Production Support
- Experience creating manufacturing drawings and assembly documentation
- Experience working with suppliers or in-house production teams
- Hands-on experience in testing, troubleshooting, and validation
- Knowledge of designing for harsh operating environments
