About the Role
Made Retail is looking for a detail-oriented and technically skilled Technical Designer to join our team in Dubai on a full-time, on-site basis.
As a Technical Designer, you will transform creative concepts into accurate, practical, and production-ready technical drawings, 3D models, and specifications for a wide range of retail and visual merchandising projects.
Working closely with the Design Team, Project Managers, workshops, suppliers, and contractors, you will ensure that designs are technically feasible, efficiently manufactured, correctly installed, and delivered to the quality standards expected by our clients.
You will play a key role in bridging the gap between creative design intent and workshop production, identifying and resolving technical challenges before they reach the manufacturing stage.
Key Requirement
Expert-level proficiency in AutoCAD and technical drawing is essential for this role.
Experience Required
- Proven experience as a Technical Designer, CAD Drafter, Technical Draftsman, or in a similar technical design role.
- Strong professional experience in AutoCAD and production/technical drawings.
- Experience in retail, visual merchandising, exhibitions, interior fit-out, or related industries is highly desirable.
- Hands-on experience working with workshops, fabricators, suppliers, or production teams is an advantage.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce detailed technical drawings, fabrication drawings, 3D models, and production specifications for pop-ups, counters, gondolas, displays, kiosks, and other visual merchandising projects.
- Work closely with the Design Team to interpret creative concepts and translate them into practical, technically feasible, and buildable solutions.
- Coordinate with workshop and production teams to ensure materials, dimensions, construction methods, finishes, and assembly details are suitable for fabrication.
- Conduct site surveys and accurate measurements, incorporating existing site conditions into technical drawings and plans.
- Review prototypes, mock-ups, samples, and production units to ensure they comply with approved drawings and specifications.
- Identify potential technical, manufacturing, and installation issues at an early stage and develop practical solutions.
- Provide technical support throughout the design, production, and installation stages of projects.
- Liaise with designers, project managers, workshops, suppliers, and contractors to resolve technical queries and ensure smooth project execution.
- Stay up to date with materials, fabrication technologies, construction methods, and industry practices relevant to retail and visual merchandising.
- Develop and maintain a library of technical standards, drawing templates, construction details, and best practices.
- Ensure all drawings and technical documentation are accurate, clearly presented, well organised, and issued within project deadlines.
Qualifications & Skills
- Proven experience in Technical Design, CAD Drafting, Technical Drawing, or a related discipline.
- Expert knowledge of AutoCAD and the ability to produce detailed, accurate, and production-ready drawings.
- Strong knowledge of materials including wood, MDF, metal, acrylic, laminates, veneers, glass, and various finishes.
- Good understanding of fabrication techniques, joinery, assembly methods, construction details, and production processes.
- Ability to translate creative concepts into accurate, practical, and buildable technical solutions.
- Excellent attention to detail with a strong technical and problem-solving mindset.
- Strong communication and coordination skills, with the ability to work effectively across design, project management, production, and installation teams.
- Well organised and capable of managing multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously.
- Proficiency in relevant 3D modelling and design software is an advantage.
- Knowledge of UAE/GCC standards, materials, fabrication methods, and market practices is an advantage.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Architecture, Interior Design, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- Strong practical and hands-on industry experience may be considered in place of a formal degree.
