üíª About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our engineering team and contribute to the development, enhancement, and evolution of high-quality software applications.
You will work primarily with Python, Java, MySQL, and AWS, contributing to the design and delivery of scalable applications while helping establish strong engineering standards across the team.
This is a hands-on role with an important focus on technical excellence, problem solving, mentoring, and continuous improvement.
üõ†Ô∏è Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, maintain, and enhance software applications using primarily Python and Java.
- Build and support scalable, high-performance applications running on AWS.
- Participate in the design and architecture of new software solutions.
- Write effective unit tests and ensure high-quality, maintainable code.
- Participate actively in code reviews, promoting strong engineering and coding standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex software issues, taking full ownership of problems through to resolution.
- Apply best practices around security, performance, scalability, and software quality.
- Work with relational and cloud-based data technologies including MySQL, DynamoDB, and Redshift.
- Collaborate with other engineers and stakeholders within an Agile development environment.
- Contribute to CI/CD, TDD, pair programming, and other modern engineering practices.
- Mentor and coach other engineers, supporting their technical growth and development.
- Share knowledge and contribute to continuous improvement across the engineering organisation.
- Help identify and introduce new technologies, tools, and approaches that improve engineering productivity.
- Champion the use of AI-powered development tools across the Software Development Lifecycle.
üéØ Requirements
- 5+ years of professional software development experience in a commercial environment.
- Strong hands-on experience with Python and MySQL.
- Commercial experience developing and deploying applications on AWS, including IaaS and PaaS services.
- Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Programming and software engineering principles.
- Experience building high-performance and enterprise-scale applications.
- Strong experience writing unit tests and working with testing frameworks.
- Experience with CI/CD, TDD, Agile engineering practices, and modern development workflows.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to take ownership of complex technical challenges.
- Good understanding of secure coding principles and application security.
- Experience working within Agile/Scrum environments.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience mentoring, coaching, or supporting the development of other engineers.
- Hands-on experience with AI-powered development tools such as GitHub Copilot or similar solutions.
- Professional working proficiency in English.

- Experience with Java, NoSQL, JavaScript, TypeScript, Go, or other programming languages.
- Experience with big data or data products.
- Exposure to microservices architectures.
- Experience with application containerisation / Docker.
- Experience with ML or machine learning technologies.
- AWS certification or relevant cloud experience.
