Role Description The HVAC Chiller Technician is a full-time, on-site role based in Doha, Qatar. This role is responsible for the installation, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of HVAC chillers and related systems, ensuring optimal performance and reliability. Daily tasks include conducting preventive maintenance, diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults, checking refrigerant levels, and calibrating controls and safety devices. The technician will coordinate with facility teams, document service activities, follow safety and environmental regulations, and support system upgrades or retrofits as needed. The role also involves responding to service calls, prioritizing work orders, and maintaining accurate records of parts, tools, and equipment.
Qualifications
· Regular full-time Diploma in Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning from a recognized institute.
· More than five years of hands-on experience maintaining industrial HVAC systems.
· Experience in oil and gas, petrochemical, fertilizer, process plant, or a similar hazardous industrial environment is strongly required.
· Proficiency in English for reading, speaking, technical communication, and report writing.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for HVAC chillers and mechanical systems.
- Practical plumbing skills relevant to chilled water systems, piping, and associated components.
- Experience performing preventive maintenance on HVAC chillers and building systems.
- Knowledge of electricity and electrical safety for motors, controls, and power circuits.
- EPA or equivalent environmental compliance awareness, including refrigerant handling and safety.
- Technical diploma or certification in HVAC, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, manuals, and equipment specifications.
- Attention to safety procedures, use of PPE, and adherence to local regulations and company policies.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with supervisors and colleagues.
- Previous experience in chiller maintenance in commercial or industrial facilities is preferred.
Essential Technical Requirements :
The requirements below are mandatory.The CV must contain clear evidence of these competencies, supported by actual equipment, systems, duties, or projects handled.
· Mechanical drawings: Strong ability to identify HVAC components, equipment, piping routes, airflow arrangements, and complete systems from mechanical layout drawings and schematics.
· Electrical wiring diagrams: Strong ability to read and interpret electrical wiring diagrams, control schematics, and equipment drawings for industrial HVAC and large chiller systems.
· Circuit tracing and control logic: Proven ability to trace electrical circuits, identify components, understand sequence of operation, and diagnose faults through control logic.
· 415 Volt live control circuits: Hands-on ability to safely troubleshoot live 415V control circuits on large chillers and air-conditioning systems.
· PLC interface: Experience troubleshooting HVAC or chiller control circuits that interface with programmable logic controllers and plant monitoring systems.
· Industrial HVAC troubleshooting: Extensive knowledge in diagnosing HVAC equipment, identifying faults, repairing or replacing faulty components, and restoring system functionality and efficiency.
· Industrial equipment and controls: Practical experience with industrial-grade chillers, air-conditioning units, HVAC controls, sensors, relays, contactors, protection devices, actuators, motors, and related components.
· HVAC fundamentals: Sound knowledge of HVAC principles, thermodynamics, refrigeration cycles, and fluid mechanics.
· Hazardous-area pressurization: Understanding of pressurization systems and their importance in hazardous areas.
· Filtration systems: Familiarity with filtration systems used for dust, chemical contamination, and odor control.
· Installation and commissioning: Experience in installation, inspection, testing, and commissioning of HVAC systems, including integration with plant monitoring systems.
· Practical skills: Experience in welding and soldering techniques relevant to HVAC maintenance.
Work Practices & HSEQ Requirements :
· Can work independently with limited supervision and respond to emergency or after-hours breakdown calls as part of an on-call or holiday rotation.
· Can work safely in challenging conditions, including extreme weather and industrial plant environments.
· Experienced in conducting or attending toolbox meetings before work activities.
· Can prepare maintenance and progress reports using Microsoft Office.
· Well versed in hazardous-area classification, hazardous chemicals, pressurized gas cylinders, emergency actions, and safe handling of materials used in oil and gas or process industries.
· Good knowledge and practical application of work permit and work clearance systems in large-scale process industries.
Mandatory Assessment Standard :
· Candidates must achieve a minimum score of 70 percent in the written HVAC examination to proceed to the personal interview and selection stage.
· Candidates must demonstrate practical proficiency in interpreting mechanical layout drawings and electrical wiring diagrams during the technical interview and practical evaluation.
· Candidates who cannot identify drawing components, trace circuits, or explain control logic to the required level will not be selected.
