The Opportunity
A leading international bank is seeking a senior Coverage Banker to play a key role in the continued development of its Middle East franchise, based in Abu Dhabi.
The successful candidate will take senior responsibility for originating and developing relationships with a select group of the Bank’s most important clients across the UAE and wider GCC, including leading corporates, government-related entities and other strategic institutional relationships.
This is a client-led coverage and origination role, sitting across the Bank’s broader Corporate & Investment Banking platform. The individual will be expected to understand clients’ strategic and financing requirements, identify opportunities across the Bank’s product capabilities, and mobilise the appropriate regional and global teams to deliver them.
The role requires a banker with strong corporate-banking foundations and an understanding of credit and balance-sheet solutions, combined with the ability to originate broader investment banking, capital markets, structured finance, transaction banking and treasury opportunities.
A key element of the mandate will be leveraging the Bank’s global network and product capabilities across Asia, EMEA and the US, connecting Middle Eastern clients with relevant financing, capital markets, advisory and banking opportunities internationally.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Own and develop senior relationships with major corporates, GREs and strategic clients across the UAE and wider GCC.
-
Act as the senior coverage point for key client relationships, developing a detailed understanding of their strategy, capital requirements, financing needs and broader banking priorities.
-
Originate new relationships and deepen the Bank’s penetration of existing clients.
-
Identify opportunities across the full CIB product spectrum, including corporate lending, acquisition and structured finance, project and infrastructure finance, capital markets, advisory, transaction banking, trade finance and treasury.
-
Work closely with product specialists to develop appropriate solutions and coordinate their delivery to clients.
-
Lead the client and origination dialogue while partnering with the relevant product, credit, structuring and execution teams.
-
Develop senior connectivity with decision-makers across major corporate groups and government-related organisations.
-
Increase wallet share by developing relationships beyond individual lending or product transactions into broader, long-term institutional relationships.
-
Connect Middle Eastern clients with the Bank’s international franchises across Asia, EMEA and the US, identifying cross-border opportunities and bringing relevant global capabilities to clients in the region.
-
Maintain an appropriate understanding of client credit, risk, return and balance-sheet considerations when originating opportunities.
-
Represent the Bank at senior level in the market and contribute to the continued development of its Abu Dhabi and wider Middle East franchise.
The ideal candidate will have:
-
Significant experience in senior corporate / CIB coverage within a leading international or regional bank.
-
A strong network and established senior relationships with major UAE and GCC corporates, GREs and other strategic clients.
-
A demonstrable track record of originating significant banking relationships and generating opportunities across multiple products.
-
Strong corporate-banking foundations, including an understanding of credit, lending, syndicated finance and balance-sheet considerations.
-
Sufficient breadth across investment banking and capital markets products to identify opportunities and bring the appropriate specialists into the relationship.
-
Experience working with product teams across areas such as structured finance, project finance, acquisition finance, DCM, transaction banking, trade finance and treasury.
-
A strong understanding of cross-border banking and the ability to connect regional clients with international product and coverage teams across Asia, EMEA and the US.
-
The ability to operate as a relationship owner and originator, rather than solely as a product specialist or transaction executor.
-
Strong understanding of the UAE and wider GCC institutional and corporate landscape.
-
Strong senior-level communication skills and the credibility to engage with CEOs, CFOs, government-related entities and other senior decision-makers.
