Do you want to lead the legal work of an international, listed company whose products contribute to making people safer? Mips is looking for a General Counsel who combines sound legal judgment with commercial understanding and enjoys working close to the business.
About the role
As General Counsel, you will have overall responsibility for legal matters across Mips Group. You will advise the Board of Directors, CEO, CFO and Executive Team, while also working directly with colleagues across the business on commercial and licensing agreements, intellectual property, marketing claims and day-to-day legal questions.
This is a broad, hands-on General Counsel role in a lean and fast-moving organization. You will lead the legal function, working closely with an experienced Senior Legal Counsel and combining responsibility for the listed company’s legal processes with practical support to the business. You will handle matters yourself as well as guide others, bringing in external counsel when specialist expertise is needed.
Key responsibilities
Your background
You hold a Master’s degree in law and bring substantial experience of qualified commercial legal work, ideally gained through a combination of private practice and an in-house role in an international business. You have a strong track record of independently managing complex legal matters, negotiating significant commercial agreements and providing clear, well-founded advice to senior decision-makers and colleagues across the business.
Your background includes experience in corporate governance, including Board and Annual General Meeting processes, and an understanding of the regulatory requirements applicable to listed companies. Experience of licensing, intellectual property, marketing law, product liability, international disputes, M&A or incentive programmes is valuable. We place greater emphasis on your ability to manage a broad range of legal matters with sound commercial judgment than on experience from a particular industry. You communicate fluently in English, the Group’s working language.
You combine legal expertise with commercial understanding and a pragmatic approach. You are confident in your assessments, can distinguish material risks from issues where there is room for compromise, and translate complex legal questions into practical advice. You build trust through an approachable and attentive manner, while having the integrity to challenge proposals and stand by your recommendations when needed. You are comfortable taking ownership in a fast-moving environment, balancing multiple priorities and combining overall responsibility with hands-on legal work.
