Originally established in 1841, Shepheard Hotel is one of Cairo's most iconic and historically significant hospitality landmarks. Following a comprehensive restoration and redevelopment, the property will be reintroduced as Mandarin Oriental Shepheard, Cairo, combining the heritage of this celebrated hotel with Mandarin Oriental's contemporary approach to luxury hospitality.
Situated on the eastern bank of the Nile in Downtown Cairo, the hotel enjoys a premier location within the city's diplomatic and commercial district and offers convenient access to many of Cairo's most renowned attractions, including the Egyptian Museum, Khan el-Khalili Souq, Al-Azhar Mosque, Old Cairo, and the Giza Pyramids.
Upon completion, the hotel is expected to feature approximately 276 guestrooms and suites, multiple restaurants and bars, extensive meeting and event facilities, a Spa at Mandarin Oriental, wellness amenities, and luxury guest experiences designed for both international leisure and business travellers. Many guestrooms and suites will offer views of the Nile and Cairo's skyline, reinforcing the hotel's position as one of the city's premier luxury destinations.
As one of Mandarin Oriental's most significant luxury hotel openings in the Middle East and Africa region, the property will play an important role in introducing the brand's renowned service culture and exceptional guest experiences to Egypt while honouring the heritage and cultural significance of one of Cairo's most celebrated hotels.
About The JobWe are looking for a forward-thinking and operationally strong Director of Information Technology to support the pre-opening and ongoing operational technology leadership of Mandarin Oriental Shepheard, Cairo.
This role will oversee all aspects of Information Technology operations for the property, ensuring robust infrastructure, secure and reliable systems, exceptional guest-facing technology experiences, and alignment with Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group standards and strategic technology initiatives.
As a key member of the pre-opening leadership team, the Director of Information Technology will play a critical role in supporting the successful opening of Mandarin Oriental Shepheard, Cairo, ensuring all technology infrastructure, hotel systems, cybersecurity frameworks, digital guest experiences, and business applications are operationally ready in advance of launch.
The Director of Information Technology will lead the hotel's IT team and will be responsible for driving operational excellence, cybersecurity, innovation, infrastructure reliability, business continuity, and guest technology services while supporting the evolving technology needs of a luxury hospitality environment.
Responsibilities
- * Lead the Information Technology team at Mandarin Oriental Shepheard, Cairo to oversee day-to-day IT operations, including infrastructure, networking, systems administration, cybersecurity, telecommunications, business applications, audio-visual systems, and technical support services for colleagues and guests.
- Support the technology pre-opening strategy and implementation, including infrastructure deployment, systems commissioning, testing, vendor coordination, project management, and operational readiness.
- Ensure all hotel systems, applications, and infrastructure are implemented and maintained in accordance with MOHG technology standards, cybersecurity requirements, and information security policies.
- Manage and develop the IT team to ensure operational effectiveness, service excellence, and alignment with business objectives and brand standards.
- Drive communications and relationships related to technology both internally and externally while promoting a culture of innovation, service excellence, and continuous improvement.
- Create and continually nurture a strong culture throughout the hotel concerning the adoption, promotion, and support of all technology offerings and digital guest experiences.
- Build strong relationships with the corporate office, ownership, technology partners, and suppliers while remaining current on hospitality technology trends and competitive developments.
- Ensure the property continues to evolve in line with guest expectations and industry-leading luxury hospitality technology practices.
- Provide periodic updates and strategic recommendations to Hotel Management regarding opportunities where technology can improve operational efficiency, enhance guest experience, mitigate risks, and create new business opportunities.
- Oversee the health and performance of network, server, cloud, Wi-Fi, telephony, IPTV, PMS, POS, audio-visual technologies, cybersecurity systems, and business-critical infrastructure.
- Ensure all IT policies, procedures, standards, and disaster recovery documentation remain updated and aligned with MOHG and corporate governance requirements.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging technologies, cybersecurity threats, malware protection, PCI DSS compliance, data privacy standards, and hospitality technology best practices.
- Oversee troubleshooting, systems backup processes, disaster recovery planning, redundancy testing, and business continuity preparedness.
- Ensure prompt and professional resolution of all IT-related incidents affecting hotel operations, colleagues, and guests.
- Manage relationships with external vendors, contractors, consultants, and service providers to ensure service quality, compliance, performance standards, and cost effectiveness.
- Collaborate closely with operational departments including Rooms, Food & Beverage, Spa, Finance, Security, Sales & Marketing, Residences, and Engineering to support hotel operations and technology initiatives.
- Support the implementation of sustainability, smart building technologies, automation, AI-enabled services, and digital transformation initiatives where appropriate.
- Prepare and manage annual departmental operating budgets, CAPEX plans, technology investment roadmaps, and manpower budgets.
- Ensure all hotel technology assets are appropriately maintained, inventoried, secured, and replaced in accordance with lifecycle management plans.
- Perform any other ad-hoc duties, projects, or operational responsibilities as assigned.
Desired Skills & Requirements
- * Bachelor's degree or above in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 8-10 years of IT experience within large-scale hospitality, luxury hotels, resorts, mixed-use developments, or multinational environments, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Previous luxury hospitality experience is strongly preferred.
- Pre-opening experience within hotels, resorts, or mixed-use developments is highly advantageous.
- Experience working with international luxury hospitality brands is preferred.
- Strong technical knowledge of hotel systems including PMS, POS, IPTV, telephony, Wi-Fi infrastructure, network security, collaboration platforms, cloud technologies, and enterprise infrastructure environments.
- Good understanding of cybersecurity governance, malware protection, PCI DSS compliance, disaster recovery, business continuity planning, and data privacy requirements.
- Preferably holds relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CISA, ITIL, PMP, Microsoft, Cisco, VMware, AWS, Azure, or cloud-related certifications.
- Strong knowledge of infrastructure administration including firewalls, VPN, endpoint protection, server environments, cloud infrastructure, virtualization technologies, and enterprise networking.
- Experience managing technology implementation projects, systems integrations, and complex vendor relationships.
- Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, communication, and team development capabilities.
- Strong project management and vendor management experience.
- High level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.
