Role Description The Chief Perfusionist is a full-time, on-site role based in Cairo. The role involves leading and managing the perfusion team, planning and delivering cardiopulmonary bypass and related extracorporeal support during surgical procedures, and ensuring adherence to clinical protocols and safety standards. The Chief Perfusionist oversees equipment selection, maintenance, and quality control for perfusion machinery and related devices, and collaborates closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing teams. Day-to-day responsibilities include supervising case planning, training and mentoring junior perfusionists and trainees, participating in clinical audits, and contributing to protocol development and research activities. The role also requires active involvement in departmental meetings, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives aligned with fellowship standards.
Qualifications
- Advanced clinical perfusion expertise, including independent management of cardiopulmonary bypass, ECMO, and related extracorporeal support systems.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, with experience supervising clinical staff, coordinating schedules, and guiding multidisciplinary collaboration.
- Strong clinical decision-making, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities under time-sensitive and high-pressure conditions.
- Proficiency in equipment operation, troubleshooting, and quality assurance for perfusion machines, monitoring systems, and related devices.
- Commitment to patient safety, infection control, and adherence to national and international clinical guidelines and regulatory standards.
- Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with surgical teams, trainees, and other healthcare professionals, and clear documentation of clinical activities.
- Relevant postgraduate qualification or fellowship in clinical perfusion, with eligibility or certification from recognized perfusion boards or authorities.
- Experience in teaching, mentoring, and delivering educational activities in perfusion or related fields is highly beneficial.
- Engagement in research, quality improvement projects, or publication in perfusion or cardiovascular sciences is considered an advantage.
- Willingness to participate in continuous professional development, attend conferences, and contribute to the advancement of perfusion practice within the fellowship.
