Job Responsibilities
- * Lead and manage the overall operations and activities of the Biomedical Engineering Department, ensuring effective, timely, safe, and cost-efficient delivery of biomedical engineering services.
- Develop, implement, and maintain departmental policies, procedures, standards, and work processes to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient management of medical equipment.
- Oversee the complete lifecycle of medical equipment, including needs assessment, planning, selection, procurement, installation, commissioning, maintenance, utilization, replacement, and decommissioning.
- Establish and monitor preventive and corrective maintenance programs based on equipment criticality, clinical risk, manufacturer requirements, and operational needs, ensuring appropriate equipment availability and reliability.
- Maintain effective medical equipment asset management, ensuring accurate inventory, equipment records, maintenance history, warranties, locations, service status, calibration, and other relevant information are properly maintained.
- Monitor departmental performance and equipment availability through appropriate KPIs, including equipment downtime, breakdown frequency, response and repair times, preventive maintenance completion, and service performance.
- Develop and manage the departmental budget and long-term capital plan, including maintenance, service contracts, spare parts, training, equipment replacement, and new equipment requirements, while prioritizing expenditure based on clinical need, risk, condition, and lifecycle costs.
- Provide technical advice to senior management and clinical departments on medical equipment requirements, technology selection, utilization, replacement, and associated operational and financial considerations.
- Lead the technical aspects of medical equipment procurement, including development and review of specifications, technical evaluation of quotations and tenders, supplier assessment, and participation in relevant committees.
- Manage and monitor manufacturers, suppliers, and external service providers, ensuring compliance with contracts, service-level agreements, response times, quality standards, and cost-effectiveness.
- Ensure appropriate testing, calibration, commissioning, acceptance, and handover of medical equipment, including equipment placed into service following major repairs, modifications, or new installations.
- Oversee equipment-related safety, incidents, failures, recalls, and alerts, ensuring appropriate investigation, corrective and preventive actions, and compliance with hospital quality, patient safety, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.
- Lead biomedical engineering activities for hospital projects, expansions, renovations, and new clinical services, ensuring appropriate equipment planning, technical requirements, installation, commissioning, and handover, while maintaining appropriate contingency arrangements for critical equipment.
- Lead, supervise, and develop the Biomedical Engineering team, ensuring appropriate staffing, competency, training, performance management, workload distribution, and professional development, while fostering effective collaboration with clinical and support departments.
- Drive continuous improvement and operational efficiency by identifying opportunities to optimize equipment utilization, reduce downtime and recurring failures, standardize equipment and maintenance practices, control costs, and provide regular management reports with recommendations to senior management.
Job Requirements
- * Education: BSc Degree in Biomedical Engineering or any related Engineering discipline.
- Experience: At least 15 years of experience as biomedical engineer preferably in an equivalent institution/organization. At least 3 years of professional experience in a leading position.
- Skills: Specialized training courses on medical equipment will be a plus.
