THE CLIENT
Our client is an established commodities and financial markets business operating from the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) and Singapore. The firm provides trading and hedging solutions to corporate clients, with a particular focus on the energy sector, and is active across listed derivatives markets.
The business supports corporate clients in managing their commodity price exposure through structured hedging programmes and derivatives transactions, working closely with exchanges, clearing brokers and banking counterparties across the Middle East and Asia.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the Risk Officer will be responsible for the independent oversight and monitoring of the Company's risk profile. The role has a particular focus on market, counterparty, credit, liquidity and operational risks arising from commodity derivatives and corporate hedging transactions, and offers the opportunity to shape the risk framework of a growing, multi-jurisdictional derivatives business.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and maintain the Company's risk management framework, policies and risk limits.
- Monitor market and trading risk across futures, options and other relevant derivatives.
- Monitor client, broker, clearing-house and other counterparty exposures.
- Establish and monitor credit, concentration, position and exposure limits.
- Monitor margin, collateral and liquidity requirements.
- Conduct stress testing and scenario analysis for significant commodity price and market movements.
- Review the risk profile of significant or complex client hedging transactions.
- Monitor trading activities against approved risk limits and mandates.
- Identify and escalate risk-limit breaches and material risk events.
- Provide regular risk reporting to senior management and the Board.
- Participate in new product, new market and new counterparty risk assessments.
- Support operational-risk, business-continuity and resilience processes.
- Provide independent challenge to the Trading function and senior management where appropriate.
CANDIDATE PROFILE – EXPERIENCE
- 5–10+ years of relevant risk-management experience.
- Experience in derivatives, commodities, investment banking, brokerage, trading or financial services.
- Strong experience in market and counterparty risk.
- Direct experience with listed derivatives, futures or options is highly desirable.
- Experience with commodity trading or corporate hedging is a strong advantage.
