- Job Purpose
The Condition Monitoring (CM) Technician is responsible for monitoring the health and performance of rotating and static equipment through predictive maintenance techniques. The role involves collecting and analyzing equipment condition data, identifying potential faults, and providing recommendations to prevent unexpected equipment failures, minimize downtime, and improve operational reliability.
- Key Responsibilities and DutiesA. Condition Monitoring Activities
- Conduct routine condition monitoring inspections on rotating equipment such as pumps, compressors, motors, turbines, fans, and gearboxes.
- Perform vibration analysis and data collection using portable vibration analyzers and online monitoring systems.
- Carry out infrared thermography, ultrasonic testing, oil analysis sampling, and other predictive maintenance activities, as required.
- Monitor equipment operating parameters, including vibration, temperature, noise, lubrication condition, and alignment.
- Identify abnormal equipment conditions, potential defects, and early signs of mechanical failure.
B. Data Analysis and Fault Diagnosis
- Collect, record, and interpret condition monitoring data in accordance with established procedures.
- Identify common machinery faults, including bearing defects, imbalance, misalignment, looseness, and gear defects.
- Compare monitoring results against equipment baselines, historical trends, and applicable alarm limits.
- Report abnormal findings and recommend corrective or preventive actions to the maintenance team.
- Escalate critical equipment conditions promptly to the Condition Monitoring Engineer or Maintenance Supervisor.
C. Predictive and Preventive Maintenance
- Support the development and implementation of predictive maintenance programs.
- Assist in identifying maintenance requirements before equipment failure occurs.
- Coordinate with mechanical maintenance, operations, and reliability teams to investigate equipment abnormalities.
- Participate in root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and equipment reliability improvement initiatives.
- Verify equipment condition following repairs, overhauls, or other maintenance activities.
D. Reporting and Documentation
- Prepare condition monitoring inspection reports, vibration analysis reports, and equipment condition assessment summaries.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment readings, inspection findings, and fault history.
- Update condition monitoring databases and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), where applicable.
- Track outstanding recommendations and follow up on corrective maintenance actions.
- Ensure all reports are submitted within the required timeframe and in accordance with company standards.
E. Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance
- Comply with company Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies and site safety procedures.
- Obtain the necessary work permits and conduct risk assessments before performing inspections.
- Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during all site activities.
- Follow isolation, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and other safety requirements when applicable.
- Report unsafe conditions, incidents, and equipment hazards to the responsible supervisor.
-
