If you are a commercially minded lawyer at the start of your career who wants to take the next step in your development as an in-house legal counsel, working with a wide range of governance and business initiatives across an international listed company and collaborate with experienced legal colleagues and stakeholders around the world, close to senior decision-makers, take this unique opportunity to become our new
Associate Legal Counsel, Corporate Legal
We are now looking for an Associate Legal Counsel to join Corporate Legal at SKF’s global headquarters in Gothenburg. This role is designed for someone who has built a solid legal foundation, typically through a few years at a well-renowned law firm or as an in-house lawyer, and is now ready to take the next step.
What we and the role offer:
Corporate Legal is part of SKF’s lean corporate center and the wider Group Legal & Compliance function. We are a small, strong and business-centric team supporting SKF’s leadership and key stakeholders in the central group functions. Our mandate covers matters of strategic importance, significant legal or commercial risk and a broad range of operational legal questions. Working at the intersection of law, business, technology and corporate governance, you will gain direct insight into key decisions and the opportunity to influence how matters are structured and executed across a large international corporation. The role has a distinctly global reach, offering frequent opportunities to work alongside legal colleagues, business leaders and specialists across SKF’s worldwide organisation.
Our work spans many of the legal areas that support SKF’s business and long-term development, including governance, strategic projects and collaborations, M&A, commercial contracting, IT, innovation and technology development, litigation and claims management, corporate finance, marketing and media.
What you can expect in the role:
- Take responsibility for a wide range of legal and governance matters.
- Engage directly with key business stakeholders and provide clear, practical legal advice, while drawing on the Corporate Legal team when appropriate.
- Drive governance and corporate processes, including legal entity management, corporate formalities and support board and shareholder matters.
- Draft and negotiate commercial agreements and support their implementation, mainly in the areas of technology development and innovation, licensing and procurement, including IT, services and machinery.
- Simplifying processes, creating a clearer and more consistent approach or exploring how new technology can support the legal function.
What makes this role particularly attractive is the opportunity to grow into the in-house lawyer role in an environment that combines trust and responsibility with the possibility to draw on experienced members of the Corporate Legal team. From the outset, you will be encouraged to take ownership of your matters and build direct relationships across the business, including with colleagues in different markets and functions around the world.
The role offers significant variety, but also flexibility in how your career develops over time. We think lawyers perform at their best when they pair a wide view of the business with deeper knowledge in the areas that interest them most. While the role provides exposure to a wide range of legal matters, you will progressively assume independent ownership of selected areas and be expected to become a trusted point of contact for the business. Over time, there will be opportunities to deepen your expertise in areas that match your interests, strengths and the needs of the business.
We expect you to have/be:
- Master’s degree in law (LLM).
- Two to five years relevant experience from a well-renowned law firm, an international company or a combination of both.
- Comfortable taking ownership of matters, forming your own view and moving work forward while recognizing when to seek input or escalate an issue.
- Experience in corporate governance, capital markets, corporate finance, commercial contracts, including drafting and negotiation, or transactions is valuable.
- Structured way of working and solutions-oriented mindset.
- Commercially minded with sound judgement and a pragmatic approach.
- Be able to organize your own workload, manage competing priorities and willing to take initiative.
- Eager to continue to learn and develop across an evolving legal landscape.
- Good communication skills and enjoy working as part of a team.
- Collaborative and confident working across cultures and functions.
- Fluent in Swedish and English (written and spoken).
