Employment Type: Volunteer / Unpaid · Remote · Flexible hours
Company Description:
SUGARFREETALKS is an Egyptian nonprofit organization focused on the SWANA (South West Asia and North Africa) region, dedicated to creating inclusive spaces where artists can express themselves and practice their craft. Founded on September 15, 2018, by Nour Sarhan, the organization supports diverse voices and perspectives, particularly around culture, identity, and lifestyle.
SUGARFREETALKS emphasizes collaboration, community-building, and accessibility in the arts. Volunteers and contributors join a mission-driven team that values creativity, representation, and social impact across the region, told with honesty, nuance, and zero sugarcoating.
Role Description:
The Volunteer Content Writers will create written content exploring cultural narratives, art, personal stories, and lifestyle topics relevant to communities in the region, in the spirit of the work we've published throughout SFTS's history. You'll research topics of interest to you, draft and refine pieces, and collaborate with our editor-in-chief to keep content aligned with our voice and values. This is a volunteer role, fully remote, unpaid, with flexible hours.
Qualifications:
• Ability to produce clear, engaging web content and general writing focused on culture, identity, and lifestyle in the SWANA region
• Attention to detail in proofreading to ensure inclusive language
• Willingness to write thoughtfully about sensitive or under-discussed subjects with care and nuance
• Interest or background in SWANA cultures, social justice, or identity-focused storytelling
• Excellent written communication skills in English and/or Arabic
• Comfort working in a remote, collaborative environment and managing deadlines independently
• Previous experience in content writing, journalism, blogging, or creative projects is beneficial but not required; we care more about voice and perspective
• If you use AI tools as part of your process, we require that you may only keep it to research, planning, or proofreading but must not have it draft the piece itself.
Why join:
• Build a public portfolio and byline
• Join a values-aligned community that prioritizes openness, inclusivity, and honest storytelling
• Shape editorial direction as a contributor to a growing team
