We are seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join a leading company in the structural steel and industrial construction sector in Zambia.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the analysis, design, optimization, and technical delivery of steel structures, with a strong focus on warehouses, portal frames, industrial buildings, mezzanines, and related steel structures.
This role requires a hands-on engineer who can independently analyze structures, determine appropriate steel sections, support project costing, and ensure designs are practical for fabrication and installation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform structural analysis and design of steel warehouses, portal frames, industrial buildings, large-span structures, mezzanines, and extensions.
- Determine appropriate columns, rafters, beams, secondary steel, bracing, and structural connections based on project requirements and applicable loads.
- Consider dead, imposed, wind, roof, equipment, solar, crane, and mezzanine loads in structural design.
- Support preliminary design and costing by providing structural concepts, member sizing, steel tonnage, BOQs, and material take-offs.
- Review architectural and structural drawings, identify technical gaps, and provide engineering recommendations.
- Design or review steel connections, base plates, anchor bolts, and other structural details.
- Apply value engineering to optimize steel tonnage, member selection, connections, fabrication, and constructability without compromising safety or compliance.
- Prepare or coordinate structural, approval, fabrication, and erection drawings.
- Work closely with Technical Sales, Management, Fabrication, Procurement, and Project Delivery teams.
- Provide technical support during fabrication, erection, site inspections, and existing-building assessments when required.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
- Strong practical experience in structural steel design, particularly warehouses and portal-frame structures.
- Proven ability to independently perform structural analysis and determine appropriate structural sections.
- Strong knowledge of structural loads, steel connections, bracing, stability, and structural optimization.
- Experience with STAAD.Pro, ETABS, SAP2000, Robot, Prokon, or equivalent structural software.
- Strong AutoCAD skills; Tekla Structures experience is highly desirable.
- Experience with steel fabrication, industrial construction, large-span structures, mezzanines, or overhead crane buildings is an advantage.
- Good understanding of fabrication, constructability, and site requirements.
- Strong English communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently, make sound engineering decisions, and manage multiple projects effectively.
