AI Engineer | Generative AI & Backend Engineering
Want to build AI products that actually make it into production and get used at scale?
We’re hiring an AI Engineer to join the central AI Engineering team of a large Nordic consumer and retail organisation.
This is a hands-on engineering position where you’ll work directly with stakeholders to identify opportunities for AI, challenge ideas, prototype solutions and ultimately build and ship production-grade AI products.
You’ll join a small AI team in Stockholm while collaborating closely with an international development team. The business has a growing pipeline of AI initiatives, so this hire will have significant ownership over both what gets built and how it gets built.
What are they building?
Current and upcoming projects include:
- Customer-facing AI chatbots with the potential to serve millions of users
- Semantic search and retrieval solutions
- Internal AI assistants used by employees across the organisation
- Generative AI solutions for content and image production
- AI-powered tools for personalising customer experiences
- An internal platform for rapidly building and deploying AI applications
The team isn't tied to one AI framework or vendor. They actively experiment with new technologies and choose the tools that make the most sense for each problem.
Their current ecosystem includes technologies such as:
Python | Generative AI | LLMs | AI Agents | Google ADK | Qdrant | Vector Databases | Semantic Search | SQL | Pandas | PySpark | APIs
What you'll be doing
You'll work across the full lifecycle of an AI product:
Business problem → technical concept → prototype → engineering → production
Day-to-day, that means:
- Building custom AI and Generative AI applications
- Developing backend services and APIs in Python
- Building and integrating LLM and agent-based systems
- Working with vector databases, retrieval and semantic search
- Processing data using tools such as SQL, Pandas and PySpark
- Rapidly prototyping new AI concepts
- Taking successful prototypes through to scalable production systems
- Working directly with Product Managers and business stakeholders
- Translating business problems into practical technical solutions
- Providing technical opinions and challenging requirements when there's a better approach
- Collaborating with developers across an international engineering team
This is therefore better suited to someone coming from a software/backend engineering angle with strong AI experience than someone looking for a traditional research-focused Data Science position.
What we're looking for
We're particularly interested in people who have:
- Hands-on experience delivering AI solutions into real-world environments
- Strong Python development skills
- Experience building backend systems and APIs
- Experience working with data using technologies such as SQL, Pandas or PySpark
- Experience with modern Generative AI / LLM technologies
- An understanding of the rapidly evolving AI tooling ecosystem
- The confidence to discuss technical solutions directly with non-technical stakeholders
Just as importantly, you're someone who likes building things.
You'll need to be comfortable experimenting, forming an opinion, challenging assumptions and then getting hands-on with the code to deliver the solution.
Particularly interesting experience
Any exposure to the following would be a bonus:
- AI agents / agentic applications
- RAG
- Semantic search
- Vector databases such as Qdrant
- Image generation or image processing
- Generative content solutions
- Personalisation
- AI applications within retail, e-commerce or other high-volume consumer environments
A Master's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning or a related technical field is advantageous, as are relevant personal projects or an active GitHub profile.
The package
- Up to 70,000 SEK/month
- ITP2 pension
- 30 days' annual leave
- Flexible/hybrid working
- Central Stockholm office close to the main transport links
- Generous employee retail discounts
- Choice and flexibility around your technical equipment
- Occasional travel to another Nordic office, typically around once per month
Why consider it?
The biggest attraction here is impact.
You won't be joining an isolated innovation lab producing AI demos that never see production.
You'll sit within a central AI team that works across a major Nordic organisation, giving you access to a huge variety of potential AI use cases and the opportunity to build products capable of reaching millions of consumers and thousands of internal users.
