SIDC is a Lebanese nonprofit civil society organization that meaningfully engages vulnerable populations, to promote their health and wellbeing pertaining to HIV, Harm reduction, SRHR, and mental health, to support them in enjoying their human and gender rights, and to work towards an inclusive society free of stigma and discrimination at the national and regional level.
In partnership with the of Social Workers’ Syndicate in Lebanon (SWSL), SIDC is organizing a four-day capacity-building training for 50 social workers. The training will strengthen the skills of social workers in responding to gender-based violence against women and girls and implementing community-based initiatives in conflict and post-conflict contexts.
Objectives
The training aims to:
- Understand the relationship between conflict and gender-based violence, as well as between loss, psychological distress, and mental health.
- Provide basic psychosocial support and make appropriate referrals, while respecting confidentiality, dignity, and survivors’ choices.
- Understand the importance of self-care and protection measures for social workers operating in high-stress environments during and after conflicts.
- Translate community needs into two community-based initiatives focused on GBV prevention and the promotion of well-being.
- Develop an action plan and timeline for the implementation of two community-based initiatives.
Scope of Work
The consultant will:
- Develop a detailed training methodology and pre-/post-assessment tools.
- Prepare training materials, case studies, practical exercises and relevant case management tools in Arabic.
- Deliver four interactive training days using participatory and practical methodologies.
- Provide practical guidance on emergency case management, protection concerns and referral pathways.
- Facilitate group work on community-based protection and psychosocial responses.
- Integrate practical exercises on self-care, vicarious trauma, stress management and burnout prevention.
- Assess participants’ learning and prepare a final technical report with key outcomes, challenges and recommendations.
Key Deliverables
- Detailed 4-day training agenda and methodology.
- Pre- and post-training assessment tools.
- Training presentations and participant materials in Arabic.
- Interactive delivery of the four-day training.
- Action plan and implementation timeline for each initiative.
- Final technical report including assessment results and recommendations.
Consultant Requirements
- Advanced degree in Social Work, Psychology, Gender Studies, Human Rights, Development Studies, Public Health, or a related field.
- Minimum 7 years of professional experience in SGBV, protection, psychosocial support, community-based programming in emergency response or related fields.
- Demonstrated experience working with SGBV survivors and women at risk in Lebanon.
- Experience delivering capacity-building trainings using participatory methodologies.
- Strong understanding of the relationship between conflict, displacement, GBV, psychosocial distress, and community well-being.
- Experience working in conflict, post-conflict, humanitarian, or other high-stress contexts is highly desirable.
- Ability to facilitate discussions around sensitive topics in a safe, respectful, and non-judgmental manner.
- Strong facilitation and communication skills.
- Fluency in Arabic and English; training materials must be provided in Arabic.
- Knowledge of the Lebanese humanitarian and post-war context is an asset.
Contextual and communication skills
- Previous experience in Lebanon or a comparable humanitarian/conflict-affected context is an asset.
- Familiarity with the Lebanese social work and protection context is highly desirable.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Arabic; fluency in Arabic is strongly preferred.
- Ability to prepare clear, practical, and professionally formatted training materials and reports.
Safeguarding and Ethical Consideration
The trainer is expected to:
- Maintain confidentiality, privacy, dignity, and informed consent throughout the training.
- Apply a survivor-centered, rights-based, gender-sensitive, and do-no-harm approach.
- Avoid requesting or sharing identifiable information or personal details related to GBV cases during training.
- Ensure that discussions and exercises do not expose participants to unnecessary psychological distress or re-traumatization.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and respectful, non-discriminatory communication.
- Follow PSEA, safeguarding, and protection from sexual harassment principles and applicable organisational policies.
- Ensure that any disclosure or safeguarding concern arising during the training is handled appropriately and referred through the established safeguarding/referral mechanisms.
- Respect participants’ right to voluntarily participate or opt out of sensitive discussions or exercises.
