The Occupational Therapist will assess the functional abilities and needs of children and adults with disabilities and provide person-centered interventions aimed at improving independence, participation, self-care, learning, play, productivity, and activities of daily living.
The Occupational Therapist will work as part of a multidisciplinary rehabilitation team and contribute to individualized rehabilitation plans based on each beneficiary's abilities, needs, environment, and personal goals.
Main Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive occupational therapy and functional assessments.
Assess activities of daily living, including dressing, feeding, hygiene, toileting, transfers, and other self-care activities.
Assess fine motor skills, hand function, visual-motor integration, coordination, sensory processing, cognition, play, learning, and functional participation.
Develop individualized occupational therapy intervention plans with measurable and functional goals.
Provide individual and group occupational therapy sessions according to identified needs.
Support beneficiaries to improve independence and participation in home, school, work, and community life.
Provide interventions related to fine motor development, hand function, sensory processing, coordination, functional cognition, and daily living skills.
Assess the need for assistive devices, adaptive equipment, positioning solutions, and environmental adaptations.
Recommend appropriate adaptations for the home, school, workplace, bathroom, or other environments to improve accessibility, safety, and independence.
Train beneficiaries and caregivers in the correct and safe use of assistive devices, adaptive equipment, and compensatory techniques.
Conduct home, school, or community assessments when required.
Develop practical home programs and provide guidance and training to parents and caregivers.
Monitor beneficiary progress and regularly review and modify intervention plans.
Participate in multidisciplinary assessments and case discussions with physiotherapists, speech therapists, psychologists, social workers, physicians, teachers, and other relevant professionals.
Contribute to individualized rehabilitation, referral, follow-up, and discharge plans.
Maintain accurate and confidential beneficiary files, assessments, treatment notes, attendance records, progress reports, and discharge documentation.
Participate in community outreach, early identification, disability awareness, and referral activities when required.
Support community-based rehabilitation and inclusion activities where applicable.
Respect beneficiaries' dignity, choices, confidentiality, and right to participate in decisions concerning their rehabilitation.
Follow Mousawat's safeguarding, protection, confidentiality, disability inclusion, and professional conduct policies and procedures.
Participate in staff meetings, case conferences, trainings, and organizational activities.
Perform other relevant duties within the professional scope of occupational therapy as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience
University degree in Occupational Therapy from a recognized university or institution.
Valid authorization or professional eligibility to practice Occupational Therapy in Lebanon, where legally required.
Relevant professional experience in occupational therapy.
Experience working with children and/or adults with disabilities is highly desirable.
Experience with developmental disabilities, neurological conditions, physical disabilities, intellectual disabilities, learning difficulties, or multiple disabilities is an advantage.
Previous experience in an NGO, rehabilitation center, hospital, school, or community-based rehabilitation setting is an asset.
Experience working within a multidisciplinary rehabilitation team is preferred.
Required Skills and Competencies
Strong occupational therapy assessment and intervention skills.
Good understanding of functional rehabilitation and activities of daily living.
Knowledge of assistive devices, adaptive equipment, positioning, and environmental adaptations.
Knowledge of child development and different types of disabilities.
Ability to establish realistic, functional, and measurable rehabilitation goals.
Strong clinical observation, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work with beneficiaries of different ages, abilities, and backgrounds.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with parents, caregivers, and multidisciplinary team members.
Good documentation and report-writing skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Commitment to person-centered rehabilitation, disability rights, inclusion, dignity, confidentiality, and non-discrimination.
Good command of Arabic; English is an asset.
