Main Purpose:

Verbal interpretation, in person or remotely, during daily medical activities (medical round, consultations, interviews, meetings, etc.) and written translations, from the mission language to local language(s) or vice versa, in order to ensure accurate, respectful, fluent and confidential communication between medi-cal staff and local population.

Accountabilities:

• Inform medical staff about important cultural nuances to consider during a meeting, medical consultation or interview with local people.
• Participate in staff training and meetings as an interpreter.
• Provide face-to-face interpreting, as well as during telephone and radio calls or other telecom devices, when necessary.
• Adapt communication to any circumstances, using appropriate language registry as well as diplomatic and courtesy manners.
• Translate MSF internal / external documents into local language(s).
• Keep record of all translated documents.
• Look after all equipment provided, i.e. dictionaries or other books that belong to MSF
• Ensure confidentiality and medical secrecy.

 

Specific Accountabilities:

• Provide accurate verbal and written translation during clinical activities, and field operations when required.
• Provide interpretation and translation to:

• Healthcare providers (doctors, nurses…., and other clinical staff)
• Administrative and support staff within PHCCs and Baalbek Governmental Hospital (BGH)

• Assist with the translation of:

• Medical and administrative forms
• Patient education and health promotion materials
• Reports, guidelines, and other official documents as required

• Provide interpretation support across multiple departments, including:

• Emergency room
• Pediatric inpatient wards (PICU and Pediatric floor)
• Pharmacy services, when needed
• Provide interpretation during outreach clinics (Outpatient in the PHCCs and MMUs), particularly in remote or underserved areas.

• Maintain strict confidentiality and data privacy across all internal meetings, consultations, and discussions involving expatriate staff, national staff, and patient records for medical, administrative, or operational purposes.

 

Requirements:

Education: Essential secondary education in translation, university degree desirable, health knowledge desirable

Experience: At least 1 year’s experience in interpretation

Language: Essential English and Arabic language
