Project Overview
HAND is implementing an Education in Emergencies (EiE) project designed to ensure equitable access to safe, inclusive and quality education services for conflict-affected and vulnerable children. The project includes Non-Formal Education (NFE), Early Childhood Education (ECE), Retention Support, Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), Psychosocial Support (PSS), community engagement and referral services to strengthen children's learning, wellbeing and resilience.
Position Summary
The ECE Center Coordinator oversees the daily operation of the center and the delivery of early childhood education activities across the morning and afternoon shifts. The Coordinator supervises center staff, supports outreach and enrollment, monitors teaching quality and attendance, maintains accurate beneficiary records, and ensures a safe, inclusive learning environment. The role works closely with the Education Officer and Project Manager to address operational and program quality issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate outreach with the relevant team, schools, municipalities and community representatives; explain the ECE activities to caregivers and support eligible children’s registration.
- Supervise teachers, assistants, facilitators, volunteers and support staff at center level; set work schedules, monitor punctuality and attendance, review leave requests and arrange coverage through the approved procedures.
- With the Education Officer, prepare classroom timetables and coordinate the three classrooms and both shifts, including staff handover and consistent implementation of the approved curriculum.
- Conduct regular classroom observations, provide constructive feedback to teachers and assistants, and document follow-up actions. Identify staff training needs and share them with the Education Officer.
- Track children’s daily attendance and participation, follow up on absences with caregivers, and flag barriers to regular participation or concerns requiring referral.
- Collect, check and securely maintain registration forms, consent forms, attendance sheets, progress records and other approved project documents; enter data accurately and submit it within reporting deadlines.
- Monitor activity quality and progress against the work plan; hold regular staff meetings and provide the Education Officer and Project Manager with timely activity, attendance and monitoring reports.
- Coordinate with the outreach and child protection teams on relevant psychosocial activities and referrals, following approved safeguarding and confidentiality procedures.
- Identify furniture, learning material, hygiene and other logistical needs; monitor stocks, maintain the center in a safe and functional condition, and coordinate approved distributions to children or caregivers.
- Maintain communication with caregivers and relevant stakeholders, including school principals and municipalities, and address operational concerns through the project management line.
- Ensure staff follow HAND policies on safeguarding, prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse, professional conduct, inclusion, health and safety, and incident reporting.
