The Research Project Manager is responsible for the day-to-day scientific leadership, coordination, and integration of a Research Project under the Conflict Medicine Program at GHI. Reporting to the Principal Investigator (PI), the postholder will ensure the quality, coherence, and timely delivery of research activities across the project’s seven interconnected workstreams and multiple international partner institutions.
Serving as the project’s primary scientific integrator, the Research Project Manager will promote interdisciplinary collaboration and ensure that research across the workstreams contributes to a coherent research agenda. The postholder will supervise two Research Assistants and work closely with the Program Manager, MEL Officer, Administration & Finance, Communications, Workstream Leads, and research partners.
Key Responsibilities
1. Scientific Leadership & Coordination
• Support the PI in providing scientific leadership for the Project.
• Provide day-to-day scientific oversight and coordination across the project’s seven workstreams.
• Ensure research activities remain aligned with the overall vision, objectives, and conceptual framework of the project.
• Develop and maintain project-level scientific frameworks, standards, and guidelines.
• Promote methodological rigor, scientific excellence, and interdisciplinary collaboration across the project.
• Review research protocols, methodologies, and outputs, while monitoring scientific and methodological risks across the project.
• Maintain regular engagement with Workstream Leads and partner institutions regarding progress, priorities, and emerging challenges.
• Lead quarterly scientific reviews and annual research activity planning across the project, in coordination with Workstream Leads, the Program Manager, and the PI.
• Coordinate scientific inputs for project, consortium, and governance meetings.
• Lead the integration of Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) across the project, ensuring that community perspectives inform research design, implementation, and dissemination.
2. Research Team Leadership
• Supervise, mentor, and provide technical guidance to two Research Assistants, allocating
responsibilities and monitoring progress.
• Promote high standards of scientific quality, consistency, and professional development across the
research team.
• Collaborate with the MEL O icer to align research implementation with the project’s monitoring and
evaluation framework.
3. Research Ethics & Regulatory Compliance
• Coordinate research ethics submissions across the project, working with Workstream Leads, partner institutions, and the Program Management team.
• Ensure required ethics and regulatory approvals are identified, submitted, tracked, and maintained in accordance with participating institutional and country requirements.
4. Publications & Knowledge Management
• Coordinate manuscripts, reports, policy briefs, conference abstracts, and other research outputs, facilitating collaborative writing across institutions and disciplines.
• Contribute to scientific writing, review, publication planning, and dissemination of research findings.
• Establish and maintain program-wide standards for scientific documentation, version control, and archiving across all workstreams.
• Oversee the project’s research archive and ensure documentation is complete, current, and accessible.
5. External Representation
• Represent the project’s team at meetings, conferences, and partner engagements, supporting dissemination of research findings and knowledge exchange.
Qualifications & Experience
• PhD or 5-7 years of experience in Social Sciences, Public Health, Global Health, Health Systems, Medical Anthropology, Sociology, Political Science, Epidemiology, Conflict Studies, or another discipline relevant to interdisciplinary health research.
• Demonstrated experience leading and coordinating complex, multi-institutional research initiatives.
• Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, and supervising mixed-methods research.
• Demonstrated experience conducting interdisciplinary research, coordinating scientific collaboration, and integrating knowledge across multiple disciplines.
• Demonstrated experience supervising or mentoring research sta , research assistants, or postgraduate researchers, and supporting research capacity strengthening.
• Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals, appropriate to career stage.
• Demonstrated experience translating research into policy, practice, and interdisciplinary knowledge products.
• Experience conducting research in conflict-a ected, humanitarian, or fragile settings, particularly within the SWANA region, is strongly preferred.
• Excellent scientific writing, editing, and critical review skills.
• Excellent leadership, coordination, and stakeholder management skills.
• Fluency in English and Arabic is essential.

About the Conflict Medicine Program
The Conflict Medicine Program (CMP) at GHI advances research, education, and practice to address the health consequences of conflict. Launched in 2016, the program brings together expertise across disciplines to examine and respond to the biological, psychological, and social impacts of war-related injuries and trauma. CMP generates evidence and translates knowledge from conflict settings into practical approaches to care, recovery, and rehabilitation. Through collaborative research and capacity-building initiatives, the program strengthens the ability of healthcare professionals and researchers to address the complex needs of conflict-a ected populations.
