Position Overview
The Special Educator will assess learners’ educational needs, develop and implement individualized educational interventions, and monitor learning and developmental progress. The role includes direct work with children with disabilities and learning difficulties, collaboration with families and multidisciplinary professionals, and accurate documentation of services and outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Conduct educational assessments and classroom observations to identify each learner’s strengths, needs, and learning barriers.
- Develop, implement, and regularly review Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) with measurable learning goals.
- Deliver individual and small-group special education sessions using differentiated teaching strategies and adapted learning materials.
- Adapt activities and educational resources to learners’ abilities, developmental levels, and needs.
- Manage children's behavioral challenges in the classroom to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment.
- Monitor and document learners’ progress through assessments, observation notes, follow-up tools, and progress reports.
- Coordinate with speech therapists, psychomotor therapists, psychologists, social workers, educators, and other relevant professionals to support integrated interventions.
- Communicate with parents and caregivers on learning objectives, progress, and practical strategies to support children at home.
- Maintain accurate and confidential beneficiary records, attendance sheets, intervention plans, and relevant data-entry and reporting tools.
- Contribute to awareness sessions, educator capacity-strengthening activities, and multidisciplinary meetings as required.
- Follow FISTA safeguarding, confidentiality, referral, and professional conduct procedures.
- Support the achievement of project targets and reporting requirements in coordination with supervisors.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a closely related field; relevant specialized training is an asset.
- Experience working with children with disabilities, developmental differences, or learning difficulties.
- Knowledge of individualized education planning, differentiated instruction, and educational assessment.
- Ability to develop adapted educational materials and monitor learning outcomes.
- Strong documentation, organizational, and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
