Summary

Creative Space Beirut (CSB) is an independent design school committed to widening access to high-quality design education. CSB provides a tuition-free three-year fashion design program and supports students and alumni through hands-on learning, mentorship and pathways into the fashion and creative industries.

CSB is launching Beyond the Studio – Fashion Practice and Professional Growth Masterclasses, a continuing education program for young creatives. This program is implemented by Creative Space Beirut, in partnership with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the Lebanese Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA), commissioned by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The program aims to increase employment and income opportunities for young creatives by strengthening technical skills, career readiness, and employer engagement.

Central to this approach is a series of applied, participatory masterclasses delivered by experienced practitioners and facilitators. Each masterclass focuses on a specific, practical competency participants need in real workplace situations, built around applied exercises, real scenarios and direct feedback, so participants leave with concrete tools they can use immediately. Trainers are asked to bring both subject-matter expertise and strong facilitation skills, translating their own professional experience into structured, accessible learning for a diverse cohort of emerging designers and creatives.

Dependency / Stakeholders

CSB Program Coordination Team, participating cohort learners (~10–15, subject to trainer recommendation and available equipment/software), and, where relevant, an external production practitioner (factory or atelier professional) contributing insight into how digital pattern files are used in a real production environment, arranged by CSB.

Employment Type

Consultancy – specialist masterclass trainer; approximately 20–24 contact hours for the initial run, with final session rhythm and structure agreed with the selected trainer. Preparation, coordination and review sit within the wider agreed scope alongside these contact hours. Additional runs may be commissioned depending on participant demand, program capacity and trainer availability; exact session format co-developed with CSB.

Remuneration

€1,100–€1,350 for the agreed initial scope of work, including preparation, approximately 20–24 contact hours of delivery, coordination, review and participant feedback. The final fee will reflect the confirmed course scope and contact hours agreed with CSB. Any additional run will be subject to participant demand, program capacity and trainer availability, and will be agreed and remunerated separately.

Scope

The Trainer is responsible for delivering the Fashion CAD / PAD: Digital Pattern Development & Production Workflow masterclass – a specialist working-brief module under CSB’s Production & Technical Readiness track within the Beyond the Studio program.

The role includes building practical working competence in fashion CAD through PAD-based digital pattern development and production workflow, enabling participants to translate existing patternmaking and garment-development knowledge into a professional digital environment and prepare technically viable files for physical production. The course should connect digital patternmaking to real production practice rather than teaching software as an isolated technical exercise, answering the core professional competency: can the participant use PAD to develop, modify, organize and communicate a technically viable digital pattern workflow that can move effectively toward physical production?

The position requires strong applied facilitation skills across PAD interface/file setup and professional workflow, digital pattern creation/digitization/modification, pattern correction and development, seam allowances/notches/annotations/production information, grading principles where appropriate, marker preparation and production layout where relevant, file organization and version control, export and technical communication/production handover, translating between manual patternmaking knowledge and digital workflow, and diagnosis/troubleshooting/correction, co-developing the final session structure with CSB within the agreed program framework.

This role does not include a broad survey of multiple CAD systems, beginner computer literacy, generic digital fashion illustration, demonstration-only software teaching, 3D visualization as the primary learning objective, or AI visualization unrelated to technical development or production.

Responsibilities

1. Session Design and Delivery

Design and facilitate applied sessions covering PAD interface/file setup, digital pattern creation/digitization/modification, pattern correction and development, seam allowances/notches/annotations/production information, grading principles where appropriate, and marker preparation/production layout where relevant.
Ensure participants spend substantial class time working directly in PAD rather than primarily observing demonstrations.
Guide participants toward a completed digital pattern-development project – an initial pattern or defined starting point, digital development and modification, corrections and iterations, relevant production information, organized final files, and a clear connection between the digital output and physical production – as session output, working where appropriate from an existing garment, prototype or pattern.
Deliver the agreed contact hours in a computer lab or capable BYOD setup with appropriate PAD access, or remotely where participants are co-located with suitable machines/software and adequate local technical support.
Advise CSB/Program Coordination on whether an external production practitioner (factory or atelier professional) would strengthen delivery by demonstrating how digital pattern files are used in a real production environment, and help integrate their contribution into the session once arranged.
Diagnose and troubleshoot participant technical issues, and support participants with different levels of digital confidence.

2. Proposal, Coordination and Reporting

Propose recommended final contact hours and session rhythm within the approximately 20–24 hour course.
Propose the appropriate balance between trainer demonstration and participant hands-on practice.
Propose participant prerequisites and any recommended technical diagnostic.
Propose applied exercises and the final course output/evidence, including whether participants should work from an existing manual pattern, garment or prototype.
Propose a feedback, troubleshooting and critique approach, and any between-session exercises.
Propose required PAD version/licensing, computers, peripherals or other technical setup, and realistic group-size limits based on equipment and the level of individual support required.
Advise on whether limited exposure to CLO or another complementary digital workflow would add value without reducing the depth of PAD learning, and flag any accessibility or technical-support considerations.

Minimum Requirements & Skills

Core Competencies

Advanced professional competence in PAD / fashion CAD, combined with strong manual patternmaking and garment-construction knowledge.
Professional experience using PAD in fashion, atelier or production environments.
Understanding of grading and production preparation.
Experience connecting digital pattern development to physical sampling and production.
Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot technical problems.
Strong applied teaching or facilitation skills, with the ability to support participants with different levels of digital confidence.

Technical Qualifications

Strong PAD experience is the priority for this course; experience with CLO 3D or other digital product-development systems is an advantage, not a substitute.
Comfortable working in a computer lab or BYOD environment, including remote delivery with appropriate local technical support.
Able to set and assess participant prerequisites, including a technical diagnostic where useful.
Able to work within a ~20–24 contact-hour initial-run commitment, with the exact allocation of contact and preparation time agreed with CSB.
