Position Overview
We are looking for a Writer, Editor & Storyteller to lead the writing, review, and editing of NCC's publications, including reports, academic papers, and policies, ensuring quality, accuracy, and compliance with the university's communications guidelines. The candidate will also shape storytelling content for NCC's 25th anniversary, capturing the center’s work, impact, and history through narrative and communication materials, and will help safeguard the center's institutional memory by researching, organizing, and documenting its history for the years ahead.
Key Responsibilities
1. Academic and Technical Writing/Editing
- Write, proofread, and edit academic papers, research articles, technical reports, grant proposals, and policy documents produced by NCC
- Copyedit for grammar, clarity, tone, and accuracy accross all written output
- Work with the technical team to write and edit project reports, ensuring alignment with donor/institutional requirements and formatting standards
- Fact-check and verify data, citations, and references in reports and papers
- Ensure adherence to AUB's style guides and templates
2. Storytelling
- Develop a consistent narrative voice and messaging framework for anniversary campaign communications
- Research and craft stories for NCC's 25th anniversary, documenting the center's history, projects, milestones, and impact
- Build and maintain a storytelling pipeline and story bank
- Interview founders, former and current staff, researchers, partners, and engaged community members to develop stories and testimonials
- Plan the storyline and structure for legagy and milestone materials, such as publications, digital archives, and books
- Craft narrative captions and stories around the center's archive, projects, and events coverage
3. Documentation
- Research NCC's history, projects, and milestones using archival materials
- Organize and synthetize collected stories, interviews, and historical materials into coherent narratives
- Maintain a repository of written content contributing to NCC's digital archive
- Identify and catalogue key documents, photos, and records worth preserving for the center's long-term archive
Qualifications and Skills
- Bacherlor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Environmental Science, or a related field
- Demonstrated experience writing and/or editing academic papers and policy documents
- Experience in storytelling and creative writing
- Research skills, including archival and historical research
- Strong editing and proofreading skills
- Experience in conducting interviews and translating them intro written narratives
- Strong command of English grammar, style, and editorial conventions
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines accross multiple concurrent projects
- Collaboration skills to work with the team
- Fluency in English. Fluency in Arabic is an asset.
