Summary
We are seeking a hardworking and reliable Steel Fixer to join our construction team. In this role, you will read structural drawings to determine the layout, cut and bend steel bars, and tie them securely into place before concrete is poured. The ideal candidate is physically fit, detail-oriented, and committed to maintaining strict safety standards on-site.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret building blueprints and structural engineering drawings.
- Measure, cut, and bend steel reinforcement bars (rebar) and mesh using hand and power tools.
- Layout and assemble steel frameworks, mesh grids, and pre-fabricated cages.
- Fix and secure rebar sections together using tie wires, clips, or spot welding.
- Install spacers and supports to ensure the steel remains in the correct position during concrete pouring.
- Collaborate with concrete pourers, formwork carpenters, and supervisors to keep the project on schedule.
- Adhere strictly to site safety regulations, especially when working at heights or in confined spaces.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience: Proven work experience as a Steel Fixer or concrete reinforcement laborer.
- Skills: Ability to read basic structural blueprints and comfortably handle rebar tools (e.g., nips, wire reels, power benders).
- Physical Fitness: High physical stamina, strength, and the agility to bend, lift heavy materials, and work outdoors.
- Environment: Comfort working at elevated heights and in tight or cramped spaces.
- Education: A high school diploma or vocational trade certificate in steel fixing/construction is preferred but not required.
Working hours: 8 hours + 2 Hours OT

Skills
- Ability to interpret structural engineering drawings, rebar layout plans, and bending schedules.
- Proficiency in measuring, cutting, and bending steel bars to precise specifications using manual and power tools.
- Mastery of various tying techniques (e.g., slash ties, ring ties) using pincer nips and tie wire to secure cages.
- Experience assembling pre-fabricated steel cages, mesh grids, and placing ground spacers/chairs.
- Safe operation of power benders, hydraulic shears, angle grinders, and oxy-acetylene cutting torches.
- Ability to lift heavy steel components (up to 25kg/50lbs), bend, kneel, and stand for extended periods.
- Strong hand-eye coordination for rapid, repetitive wire tying and tool handling.
- Strict adherence to site safety protocols, including the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and fall-protection gear.
- Precision in spacing and aligning bars to ensure the structural integrity of the concrete.
- Ability to coordinate smoothly with site supervisors, crane operators, and formwork carpenters.
