Role Description The Director of Biomedical Engineering is a full-time, on-site role based in Cairo, responsible for leading and overseeing all biomedical engineering activities within New Kasr Al-Aini Teaching Hospital. This role includes managing the lifecycle of medical equipment, from planning and procurement through installation, preventive maintenance, calibration, and decommissioning. The Director will supervise biomedical and clinical engineering teams, coordinate with clinical departments to ensure equipment reliability, and implement policies and procedures that support patient safety and regulatory compliance. Day-to-day tasks include setting maintenance and inspection schedules, prioritizing repairs, managing vendor relationships and service contracts, developing capital equipment plans, and maintaining technical documentation. The Director will also collaborate with hospital leadership on technology strategy, budget planning, and continuous improvement initiatives in medical device management.
Qualifications
* Strong foundation in Biomedical Engineering and Clinical Engineering, with the ability to lead technical and clinical technology initiatives.
* Demonstrated experience with Medical Equipment and Equipment Maintenance, including troubleshooting, repair, calibration, and performance verification.
* Expertise in Preventive Maintenance programs for medical devices, including scheduling, documentation, and adherence to safety and regulatory standards.
* Proven leadership and people-management skills, including team supervision, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration with clinical and administrative stakeholders.
* Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering or a related engineering field; advanced degree or specialized certifications in clinical engineering or healthcare technology management are preferred.
* Experience in a hospital or healthcare setting, ideally in a teaching or tertiary care environment, with familiarity in regulatory and accreditation requirements for medical equipment.
* Strong analytical, organizational, and project-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and complex technical projects.
* Effective written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in additional relevant languages is an advantage.
