Location: Abu Dhabi, UAE
We are looking for an organized, technically minded Associate Technical Manager to join our growing creative and technical team in Abu Dhabi, working on a major theme park development associated with one of the world’s most recognized entertainment IPs.
The immediate focus will be design validation and design development for a major animatronics package, coordinating the engineering, creative, and BIM work behind a wide range of animated figures, creatures, props, foliage, and themed effects, and taking each one through the client’s review and approval process.
This is an opportunity to sit at the center of a project where design decisions become real physical assets, progressing through engineering, fabrication, factory testing, installation and commissioning.
The Role
You will work as part of a small, growing project team, based daily in our Abu Dhabi project office alongside the Technical Manager and the Delivery Director. You will be the day-to-day link between our engineers and artists, our partner studio, the main contractor and the client’s review team.
Your work will range from planning and assembling design submissions to tracking technical queries, review comments, and actions through to closure. You will maintain the deliverables register, the technical query log and the submission schedule, manage document control on the project’s submittal and BIM platforms, and prepare, attend and record the weekly technical and progress meetings.
You will help keep the mechanical, electrical, controls, BIM, and creative work on each asset aligned, checking that every submission is complete, consistent, and compliant with the project requirements before it is issued, and that review comments are understood, answered, and incorporated before the next stage gate.
A key part of the role is understanding how a design moves from creative intent to a built, tested and installed figure. You should be comfortable reading drawings, 3D models and specifications, spotting gaps and interface issues early, and communicating them clearly to engineers, artists, suppliers and client representatives. As the project progresses, the role will follow the work through mock-ups, fabrication, factory acceptance testing, installation and site testing.
What We Are Looking For
You should have a degree in engineering or a related technical discipline, typically with five or more years of experience in technical coordination, design management or project engineering on complex, multi-discipline projects.
You should be confident across the core coordination workflow, including submittal and RFI management, document control, comment tracking, program monitoring, meeting management and progress reporting.
Experience with Aconex, BIM 360, Bluebeam or similar platforms would be valuable. Experience with Revit, Navisworks, BIM workflows or Primavera P6 programs would also be highly desirable, particularly where show equipment needs to interface with scenic, architectural and building-services models.
Particularly relevant experience includes:
• Themed entertainment, animatronics, show systems, rides, AV or other specialist technical packages
• Major projects in the UAE or wider GCC, working with main contractors, consultants and client review teams
• Staged design submissions and formal approval processes, including work with established entertainment IP
• Mock-ups, factory acceptance testing, installation and site commissioning
• Coordinating engineers, studios and suppliers working in different locations and time zones
Clear written and spoken English, close attention to detail and the persistence to see actions through to closure will be important. This is a full-time role based in Abu Dhabi, with regular face-to-face meetings, and we will prefer candidates already in the UAE who can commit for the full duration of the project.
