This is an opportunity to join our Metal Consumables and Elements (MCE) Division and play and important role in developing our Mechanical segment. You will help us build and share knowledge about how our metal powders are used in customer applications and how their physical and functional properties contribute to the performance of our customers’ processes and end products.
MCE serves three main application segments: Mechanical, Metallurgical and Chemical. Within the Mechanical segment, we serve a range of application areas where the mechanical properties of our metal powders are utilized to provide specific functionality and performance in our customers’ processes and end products. Examples include friction, abrasives and diamond cutting, filtration, magnetic applications and polymer extrusion. We have high growth ambitions within mechanical. This means growing together with existing customers, identifying new customers and applications, and developing the next generation of products to meet future market needs. To succeed, we need to work closely with our customers, understand their applications and translate their requirements into relevant product and development activities. This is where you come in.
Your role
As Application Development Engineer for the Mechanical segment, you will play a key role in shaping the direction and priorities of our application and product development activities.
Working closely with customers, you will develop a deep understanding of their applications, processes and current and future requirements. You will translate these insights into development needs and opportunities, while also considering industry trends, emerging technologies and competitor developments.
You will act as a technical bridge between our customers and Höganäs, bringing customer and application insights into the organization while representing Höganäs’ technical expertise externally. You will support the introduction of new products, help customers optimize the use of existing products and work with colleagues across MCE to identify new applications and future growth opportunities.
About the position
Your key responsibilities in this role will include to:
- Develop deep understanding of the way our products are being/can be used, and their impact on the end customers processes and their end products.
- Translate user requirements into features and product solutions. Give input to Portfolio management and Product development on future requirements within the field of responsibility.
- Develop understanding of product that compliment Höganäs products in the customer recipes.
- Attending seminars, exhibitions, and conferences to stay updated. Be genuinely curios about everything happening within this field.
- Create manuals, conduct training sessions to targeted customers and other stakeholders, and maintain technical documentation both for internal and external usage.
- Provide ongoing technical support, resolve issues within the field of expertise.
The key to success in this role is effective collaboration across functions internally and with customer and other partners, to gather relevant insights and inspire to relevant activities. MCE have few dedicated resources, so collaborating with existing organization, mainly within MCE but also sometimes with other divisions, is the only way to success.
In this role you will report to VP Operations & Technology, and you will work close to all functions within MCE division. You should be willing to travel for work in order to meet customers globally as well as colleagues at other locations.
Your profile
We are looking for an individual with minimum five years of similar kind of work experience in an industrial goods company. You have an engineering/science educational background with a high level of general understanding of material. If you would have previous experience from the friction industry it would be a strong merit.
You have experience working in assignments which involved collaborating with teams from diverse geographies and functions. You have an analytical bent of mind and love data driven problem solving. It would be great if you have a working knowledge of project management concepts. There should also be experience with customer engagement.
