Mobilizing the Whole Church for Kingdom Impact in Every Sphere of Society Despite the deep biblical affirmation of work as a sacred calling, a harmful divide between the “sacred” and “secular” still shapes much of Christian thinking. This disconnect has left many believers feeling as though their work—outside of professional ministry—lacks spiritual value. As the Cape Town Commitment boldly declares: “We challenge the all-too-common worldview that sharply divides the sacred from the secular, and the church from the world. We reject as unbiblical the notion that ‘religious’ activity is the only way to serve God; rather, we affirm that all of life, including daily work in business, industry, government, academia, and the home, is part of God’s calling.” (CTC II-A-3)
