What to do the night before an interview
Read the posting, say two stories out loud, and set out what you will wear. Do not learn a new version of yourself at midnight.
The night is for recall, not research
A new company history, a new answer, and a new CV at 11 p.m. will all blur. You want the morning brain to find things it has already said once.
If you have not prepared at all, do the short version below and sleep. Exhausted charm loses to a rested sentence.
Three pages, then stop reading
The posting. Your CV. One page about them: what they do, and one recent thing you can mention without reciting the About page.
Highlight the three tasks in the posting you can actually talk about. Ignore the rest until they ask.
Say two answers out loud
“Tell me about yourself” and one story with a result. If you only read them, you will discover the long version in the room.
Time the first one. If it passes 90 seconds, cut a sentence tonight, not tomorrow.
- Who you are now.
- One result that matches their task.
- Why this role, in their words.
Remove the morning decisions
Clothes, route, link, charger, the name of the interviewer. Write the address or the call link where you will see it before coffee.
If it is a video call, check the camera once. Then close the laptop.
Leave a question on the card
Write one question you actually want answered, about the work in a normal week. You will not invent a good one while you are saying goodbye.
Then sleep. The interview is a conversation you have already started preparing. It is not a test you can cram.
